Home description
Lake View Lodge is a very spacious 3 bedroomed property on the edge of Lake Storkagetrask set in stunningly beautiful, tranquil surroundings. The house, of typical Scandinavian construction, sleeps up to 8 people and consists of a large open plan kitchen/ living /dining area opening out onto extensive decking with magnificent views over the lake; ideal for dining al fresco. There are two twin bedrooms (one downstairs) and a fantastic 25ft master bedroom overlooking the lake. The hot tub completes the scene.
Lake View Lodge is ideal for couples, families or groups; whether you wish a peaceful, relaxing holiday or one packed full of activity – canoeing or rafting on the lake, fishing, elk hunting, ski-ing, walking, swimming – the list is endless.
The house is the nearest to the lake of a hamlet of properties including a very well stocked village shop selling fresh fruit and veg, meat, and general groceries.

The Norrland / Lapland / Vasterbotten region
Sweden was voted “Favourite European Country" in the Guardian, Observer & Guardian Unlimited Travel awards 2006.
Many visitors to Northern Sweden for the first time are astonished to discover such a vast majestic landscape with enormous expanses of pristine wilderness and breathtaking scenery, yet so close and accessible from the hustle and bustle of central Europe. Sweden is an easy country to travel in, the roads are an absolute delight, sometimes you can literally see for miles and there is very little traffic in the north of the country. Sweden enjoys one of the highest standards of living in the world and a quality of life to go with it.
Lake Storkagetrask is in the Vasterbotten region of Sweden. Vasterbotten is Sweden’s largest county by area covering an eighth of Sweden’s total land area. It is an area of contrasts with the modern Bothnian coast towns of Umea, Skelleftea and Lulea and the endless forests and lakes of the countryside. You may discover the northern lights or the midnight sun. Elk, bears and wolves roam the forests while lynx and wolverines still hunt in the mountains.
There is a richly varied cultural scene – theatres, concert halls, museums and countless libraries.
Skelleftea / Storkagetrask area
Skelleftea, around a half hour’s drive away is the nearest large town with a population of 75,000. Here you will find a vibrant city life offering a surprisingly large choice of shopping, restaurants, entertainment and culture. If you are looking for some retail therapy the Swedish are (as you would imagine) big on design and there are many excellent inexpensive shops here. Eating out is generally of a much higher standard than in the UK and do not expect to pay over the odds. Indeed it is a gross misconception that Sweden is an expensive country to visit –this belief originated in the 80’s and they have sadly been unable to shrug it off.
Skelleftea Museum +46 910 735510 Open Tues 12-9pm & Wed-Sun 12-4pm You can visit many exhibitions and learn about the history of the town.
City Park Skelleftea's main park is in the city centre framed by trees and a view of the river. There is a cactus garden which boasts 11,000 cacti and features a new theme every year.
Bonnstan in Skelleftia An old timber city in Skelleftea, dating from the 17th century. A church weekend, a market and traditional Midsummer festivities are organised here every year.
Lejonstorm Bridge Sweden's longest and oldest wooden bridge (173m long), still in use today.
How to get there
Flying from UK to Stockholm Arlanda and then either drive up to Vasterbotten , approx 8 hrs, but a very relaxing drive - the roads are excellent with very little traffic - or take an internal one hour flight to Skelleftea airport around a 30 minute drive from the house. Lulea and Umea airports are a little over an hours drive. Do take care - you can get cheaper flights to Stockholm Nykoping but it is 60 miles south of Stockholm and there are no internal flights from this airport. Economy flights are also available to Stockholm Skavsta and from here you can get a bus to Arlanda airport for your internal flight to the north.

Further details indoors: The open plan living / kitchen/ dining area is the hub of the house; in the kitchen you will find such essentials as a cooker, microwave, large fridgefreezer and a wine cooler. The dining table can comfortably seat 8 and there are two large couches in the living area.
The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable - one of the twin rooms is downstairs (as is the wet room) for any guests who may have difficulty negotiating the stairs. The master bedroom is especially large with the most wonderful views over the lake. To wake up with the sunrise and to look out over the lake is simply the most amazing experience.
Further details outdoors: There is an extensive area of decking on the south side of the house with simply breathtaking views of the lake. Ideal for sunbathing, dining 'al fresco', enjoying a glass of wine or relaxing in the hot tub.
Many local residents own boats, rafts, canoes etc on the lake and you will never be short of an invitation to join them out on the water. Fishing is available on both the lake and local rivers - indeed the River Byske is only a short drive away and is one of the best salmon rivers in Scandinavia. You can fish anywhere on the river for less than £10 per day.
