The Rez de Jardin, chateau de Bézyl, is situated in the mids of a 96 ha of countryside, its fields, heaths and woodlands are managed as a nature reserve, its native flora and fauna can be enjoyed by walking its many paths and tracks. There is a small lake. We have roe-deer, wild boar, bats, many butterflies and insects. A good area for birdwatching and mushroom picking. There is a swimming pool, which is heated from mid-Mai till mid-September The gardens are gradually being developed into a plantsmans garden with many interesting varieties. This beautiful tranquil part of Brittany, is ready for you to explore, it has well-preserved ancient villages and hamlets, its not too far from the sea, and offers a holiday away from the crowds, yet not too far from the nearest amenities.
In the surrounding area are many photogenic villages of which La Gacilly, home of Yves Rocher, with its plantsfilled streets and artists shops and its famous annual photo exposition. The ancient village of Rochefort en Terre, on top of a giant rocky outcrop with its castle remains, and La Roche Bernard with its artisans, little restaurants, and old and new harbour, with many sailing boats arriving from the Atlantic, up along the river Vilaine.
Saint Just, just 5 minutes from us, has its prehistoric site: Les Landes des Cojoux, with its menhirs, and its museum about life in neolithique times.
The automobile museum of Loheac is 15 minutes away, the saltmarches with its walled town Guérande at 45 minutes.
The stunning breton coast has many little beaches and rocky alcoves, the luxury seaside town of La Baule ( just under an hour away ) with its designer shops, and long lovely sandy beach.
The nearest beach is 45 minutes away, near Billiers, and excellent for kite surfing. On the other side of the Loire is Pénestin ( 45 min)

Food, wine, markets:
The local markets are worth exploring.
Only 15 minutes from us is the town Redon, with its food markets selling produce of many local farms and market gardens. We have a list of market days of the surrounding villages ready for you.
The local supermarkets all have an excellent diversity of products, of which also health and wholefood produce. Look out for the label AB, which means agricultuur biologique: without pesticides and artificial fertilisers. Our local biological supermarket Le Heron Blue, has an excellent selection of healthfoods available.
There are a variety of restaurants, and delicatessen, a list is available for you.
The local bakeries of which there are many, are worth testing out. Most of them are already open at 7.30 in the morning, the nearest 5 minutes away. Apart from that, there are surely some surplus beans, tomatoes or lettuces and fresh herbs, to be had from our vegetable garden.
For a culinary weekend with a group of friends or family ? Arrange a stay on the estate in the autumn. From the second week of September till end October thereabouts are many varieties of mushrooms to be found, as well as gathering of sweet chesnuts for roasting or cooking, well into the new year.

The "Rez de Jardin" is the groundfloor of the chateau. There are two main entrances: its private main door and entrance hall, leading out into the garden on the west side. The other entrance is the kitchen doors leading onto the large patio. There are 5 en suit bedrooms, each with a generous double bed and bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin.
3 of the 5 bedrooms have a patio door that leads to the terrace : Chevreuil, Ecureuil and Hibou.
There is a childrens room/playroom attached to Chevreuil, also with its bathroom with a shower and washbasin as well as a patio door. This room has two single beds. A cot, highchair and dogbaskets are available on request.
There is a spacious central lounge area, with TV,DVD,CDplayer and a pool biljard.
There is an extra toilet just off the lounge area.
The cosy dining/ kitchen has a large gas cooker with large hob and plenty of oven space. There is a microwave, double fridge, dishwasher, expresso machine and coffeemachine. The French doors leads onto the large terrace, with its outdoor table and chairs, for that alfresco dining experience. There is a BBQ, some lazy chairs to enjoy the view over lawn and parkland.
Into the vaults off the launge area is the freezer and storage space.
The laundryroom has a bigsize washingmachine, dryer, ironingboard, iron, linen cupboard.

There are many paths to explore on our private estate of 96 ha, its excellent for dog walking, bird spotting, mushroom picking, admiring its wildlife: the red squirrel, roe-deer, wild boar( if you r lucky). The swimming pool is fenced and is heated from April till end of September. Enjoy our gardens with its interesting plants, the potager. The chickens, ducks and sheep.
Evening walks to listen to the night jars, admire the bats, and the glow wurms. Our sky on clear nights is filled with stars.
If you don't wish to, you don't have to leave the estate, except for getting some shopping in.
In the countryside surrounding us are also many paths and villages and little towns to explore.
Take you mountain bike, and starting out from us are miles of mountainbike tracks passing quaint villages, through woodland, and over rocky outcrops. Walk for 10 minutes and you are on the prehistorical site of Saint Just. We have maps with recommended routes available for walkers and bikers and car drivers. Private fishing and shooting, canoeing, horsriding, rockclimbing, tennis are available closeby.
We have a visitors pack for you on arrival, including a map of the estate and the surroundings.
There is another holiday home on the estate: Gite La Rosa, which sleeps 6 and can be rented together with the "Rez de Jardin".
We live on site and are available to answer any of you questions in english, french, dutch or german.

The Brittany region
The estate is situated in the south-east of Brittany, in Ille et Villaine, close to the Morbihan and Loire Atlantique. Being inland, we do benefit of the sun, the spring usually warm, the summers can be hot and dry. The winters are usually mild, with occasional snow.
The nearest beaches are at Pénestin ( 45 min)and near Billiers 63 km where its long sandy beach is excellent for (kite)surfen. The popular large sea-side town La Baule 80 km has a lovely sandy beach, and many designer shops and restaurants.
The rocky coastline also has many small secluded beaches and alcoves, the water is clear, and its wildlife to be enjoyed in the many rockpools.
Things to see:
The saltmarshes with its salt museum its ancient walled town Guérande . The many prehistoric sites and quaint villages, such as La Gacilly, with its artisan shops and annual photographic exhibition.
The village La Roche Bernard, with its spectacular views from its ramparts over the river Vilaine, with its old harbour and new harbour, its many sailing boats, restaurants and artisan shops.
Rochefort on Terre, a medieval little town, very well preserved, with many shops and galleries, selling art and local products.
The town of Vannes with its timber framed houses close to the golf of Morbihan with its many islands, where it is good sailing or going on a mini cruise or boat trip.
Places to visit:
In the area surrounding Sixt-sur-Aff are many photogenic villages of which La Gacilly ( 10 min) with its plantsfilled streets in summer, and artists galleries and shops and its famous annual photo exposition. The ancient village of Rochefort en Terre (30 min) on top of a giant rocky outcrop with its castle remains.
Saint Just, just (5 min) has the nearest prehistoric site Les Landes des Cojoux with a museum to discover neolithic life . Various walks and trials start from here. Including donkey tracking. Along the steep cliffs surrounding lake Du Val, rock climbing can be practished.
In Loheac ( 20 min) is the automobile museum, and its interesting oldworldy village has some good restaurants and there is a race track for rallycross, karting, quad and 4x4 and courses for racingdrivers;
The town Redon with its market (15 min) little high street, harbour, maritime buildings, Irish pub, its cinema, musique festival in July and in October: Fete de la Marron which covers everything surrounding the sweet chesnut, roasting, delicious sweet chesnut breads and cakes, jams and cremes, but also covers storytellling, traditional music and theater.
