The South East England region
Old Post Cottage situated in the conservation area of the village of Rodmersham Green near Sittingbourne on the North Kent coast. Close to good transport links, this luxury cottage is a very convenient location to explore Kent and also for day trips to London or the Continent.
The whole of the North Kent Coast is a lovely place to explore, from RSPB nature reserves for bird watching on Elmley Marshes on the Isle of Sheppey to harbours such as Whitstable where you can sample the famous oysters. With pretty beach huts and the traditional seaside resorts of Herne Bay, and Broadstairs, this is a very popular area of Kent for enjoying a traditional seaside holiday, and it is all on the doorstep of this traditional Kent holiday cottage.
The Cathedral City of Canterbury and the county town of Maidstone, both in Kent, are also both only approximately 15 miles away from the cottages. The medieval market town of Faversham is just 6 miles
Old Post Cottage is a close to the beautiful North Kent Downs and Cromers Woods, a 28 hectare ancient woodland owned by the Kent Wildlife Trust, best visited in March to early July and October.
The cottage is opposite the village pub; the Fruiterers Arms run by Tony and Adrian. The pub serves bar and restaurant meals including their speciality steak on a stone. The village shop Rodmersham Coffee and Shop, run by Paula, is 4 doors away from the cottages, and sells a variety of local produce, papers, magazines, teas, coffees, cakes, lunches and snacks. On a sunny day you can sit outside, relax and enjoy the view of village life. Pre-ordered food boxes (at an extra cost) are available from the store, ready for your arrival.
Just 2.5 miles from the cottages, east of Sittingbourne, you will be able to join the No.1 Cycle Route, which follows the North Kent coast passing through Rochester and Canterbury. The ride takes you through the village of Conyer, along the creek side and past the yacht club - it's worth stopping off at The Ship at Conyer enroute! In addition there are some lovely local cycle routes we can advise on including rides through Rodmersham, Milstead and Bredgar and into the Kent Downs AONB and along the Pilgrims Way.
For steam enthusiasts, classic car/tractor buffs or children of all ages the Bredgar and Wormshill Light Railway opens its doors once a month (see links for opening times). BWLR has a delightful 2 foot gauge line tucked away in the heart of the Kent countryside, near the village of Bredgar in a richly wooded area of the North Kent Downs.
The Kent town of Faversham is a short drive away (or reasonable cycle ride) from the cottage and offers many attractions to the holidaymaker to explore more of Kent. The historic town centre is well worth a visit during your stay with many historic sites including Maison Dieu which are the remains of a medieval monastery - it has been a village museum since 1924 and is the oldest in England. Faversham's gunpowder mills have dominated the Kent town's industry for the last 400 years and the Chart Gunpowder Mills are well worth a visit; here you can see the 11 processes in making gunpowder.
Faversham is also the home of the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale Farm - here you can spend a lovely day out and get a real taste of the fruit growing industry in Kent, sample the food in the café or buy local produce. Hops also feature in this area of Kent and the Faversham Brewery of Shepherd Neame, the oldest brewery in England, offers a wonderful two hour tour where it is also possible to sample the brews, a perfect trip out with all the family to learn more about Kent during your stay at these holiday cottages! The Faversham website contains lots of information about the town and local area including a what's on listing and some fabulous walks and “food trails”. Faversham Creekside is really interesting to visit with its moored Thames barges and quaint quayside. For those wanting to get closer to the sailing action they can book a trip on the Greta Thames barge, moored in Faversham and Whitstable or the Edith May in Lower Halstow. Once a year the famous Swale Match takes place (normally August) – a Thames barge sailing regatta. In winter the Edith May moors up in Lower Halstow and doubles as Tea Room (see link).
There are several glorious Kent gardens to explore for a fun day out during your stay at this Kent holiday cottage, including Mount Ephraim Gardens at Hernhill, where you can wander around the magical gardens and enjoy lunch or tea at the restaurant. There are also the Doddington Place Gardens and Belmont House and gardens which are both well worth a visit during your stay at the cottage.
The Historic Dockyard of Chatham, Kent, is a unique, award-winning maritime attraction - here you can explore 400 years of Kent history and there are costumed guides to show you around. This is a wonderful Kent attraction to visit with the children as there are a number of interactive displays and talks including making rope and exploring a submarine.
For older children, teenagers and even adults a trip to the Buckmore Park Go Karting Circuit is a fun day out whilst you're staying in this Kent holiday cottage. This is where Lewis Hamilton began his racing career! The circuit is open all week and it is possible to book special parties in advance.

"A home away from home!"
Monique and Malcom have thought of everyhing to provide a delightful cottage in the heart of the Kentish countryside that accomodates all. Beautifully presented cottage with an amazing history along with it's neighbour Candy Cottage that can also be rented. We spent over a week here visiting family and friends and felt very much at home with our two girls age 5 and 7 years. Lots of exploring through the fields and meeting the friendly locals. We will definitely be back to use Old Post Cottage as our base for visiting family and friends again. There is so much to do in this area and Monique and Malcom can point you in the right direction. We loved the personal touches of wildflowers from their garden, home baked bread and fresh eggs, butter and milk all waiting fro us on our arrival. Well done!!!
