The Andalucia region
The climate is due to its unique geographical situation, the annual average temperature is around 18.5º C, with 300 days of sunshine a year.
Mijas is a Costa del Sol town in Malaga, Spain that has 12 kilometers of coastline in which you'll find incredible beaches to enjoy the sun and the sea. It's dark sand beaches attract thousands of tourists each year. It has a great off of mountain and beach all in one.
Costa del Sol, "Costa del Golf” is a refrain you'll see and hear constantly when you come to the coast. The area is one of the world's golf meccas for good reason: There are now 43 golf courses over the main 60-mile stretch between San Roque and Málaga! Yes, that's rapidly approaching an average of one course per mile.
Along the coat of southern Spain you'll also find many restaurants specialized in Moroccan cuisine, Italian, Argentinian, Asian and many other international cuisines.

The Calahonda / Dona Lola Gold Crown Beach Resort area
The Dona Lola resort offers an extremely extensive range of leisure facilities. The outdoor pool begins at a shallow end safe for youngsters, and then just meanders right alongside the sea for 270 feet and under 2 lovely white bridges before reaching the deep end. Dozens of loungers and umbrellas surround the pool, and it's a lovely place to relax, with the hypnotic sound of the waves lapping up the beach and against the rocky outcrops, providing snooze-inducing background music. There's an area around the pool for the youngsters to gather, with pool-tables. Our sheltered over 18's swimming pool offers a quieter facility at peak-times. It is heated by solar panels. The water temperature on my last visit in late November was 34 degrees.....very pleasent ! There are many more loungers & umbrellas here, and you're within easy reach of the bar / bistro in a lovely sun-trap amongst waterfalls & ponds.
Dona Lola is most certainly not short of bars and restaurants. There is the aforementioned bistro bar in the leisure centre, and the local beach bars, and within a couple of minutes walk from the apartment there are several more good-value bars & restaurants - including English, Hong Kong, Indian, Spanish and Mexican. There are dozens more restaurants and bars just across the main road, via convenient foot-bridge or underpass. Within a short driving distance there are theme restaurants at Cabopino, and more upmarket restaurants towards Marbella.
There is a very useful mini-market on the complex offering very reasonable prices on a large variety of produce, and a larger ones just across the main road.
There are tennis courts on the complex, and there are snooker tables, pool tables, and table-tennis tables in the indoor leisure centre. There are good places in the sea close by for snorkelling. On beaches within easy reach of the resort you can partake of water-skiing, jet-biking, sailing, and wind-surfing.
Dona Lola is very much a family resort, and as such children and teenagers are very well catered for. We have a children's club with a really nice Spanish events organiser called Curro. He keeps them well occupied with fun, frolicks, and sporty activities, such as 5-a-side football matches (both in & out of the water!) tennis, table-tennis & pool competitions, and beach-combing.
Our more mature guests are not forgotten. A great variety of free activities are arranged for you too ! These include less-energetic French Boules matches, just-as-energetic aqua-aerobics, paella-making demonstrations, wine-tasting sessions, and beach-walks to La Cala Market. There are free Spanish lessons, and free evening entertainment throughout the year. Curro was a botanist in an earlier life, and will teach you much about the local flora and fauna on his nature walks.
From Dona Lola you can walk along the beach for as long as you want in both directions. Walking right for thirty minutes will bring you to the attractive harbour village of Cabopino, with it's cheerful beach-bar, a few up-market restaurants, and a beautiful sandy beach. Walking left will take you to La Cala, a more typically Spanish sea-side fishing village, with another nice beach, and lots of bars and good-value restaurants. You'll pass beach-bars (or not, as the case may be !) within ten minutes in either direction. To return, you could jump on a bus if you don't fancy the walk back, or take a taxi. There's another nice walk DOWN from the hills above Calahonda, following river-beds & manicured golf-courses, to the beach between Cabopino and Dona Lola. How do you get up in the first place ? -well, by a road-train !
In short, there's everything on Dona Lola that you could possibly want from a Spanish holiday at whatever time of the year. And at risk of boring you with this fact, you really do not need a hire-car

"Great relaxing stay"

"relaxing week away"
we stayed for one week with our two young children, the apartment was as expected perfect for us to use as a base for our holiday. The resort was clean and tidy and the swimming pool was good for our 6 and 3yr old and really safe, plenty of places to eat on the resort and reasonable prices, the beach was ok but their are really good beaches within walking distance in both directions and not crowded which we liked.i would hire a car next time to see more of whats on offer as there is plenty of places to go,but if you want to sit by the pool all day this place is spot on.on coming home we booked again next year as we found this holiday great value.

"Cosy base, perfect location."
The apartment is situated in well maintained colourful gardens, with a lovely view of the sea. It has everything you need as a base for your holiday and is only a couple of minutes walk to the pool or the beach. Supermarkets and bars and restaurants are all on the doorstep and the nearby coast road can take you to all the other resorts.

"Fantastic Holiday for all the Family"
Absolutely wonderful week in Marianne F, Dona Lola. We cannot believe what we got for our money... Excellent value! The restaurants were all fabulous and the staff welcoming and friendly. Our 14yr old and 5 yr old are difficult to please at the same time but this ticks all the boxes.
We had great ideas about where to travel to but ended up staying by the pool almost every day.
Will recommend highly to all my family and friends and we will definitely be returning!

"Lovely quite, safe and restful place to stay but with all you need on site."
Lovely quiet spot with glorious weather. We stayed for two weeks Found the apartment clean, cool and The apartment is in a quiet spot with lovely views of the sea and is well equipped; should you wish to cook the kitchen is well stocked and provided for, we found so many good quality well priced restaurants and bars nearby that we ate out often. As a mature couple we absolutely loved the adults only pool, but thought the large family pool area was lovely and in a fantastic spot, The beach is lovely and very safe for children as you have direct access with no roads to cross we enjoyed many walks along the beach to La Cala . With a excellent locale bus service to all the larger resorts such as Marbella. Would definately recommend to friends in fact we enjoyed our stay so much we have now purchased a place in Calhonda

"Lovely warm and relaxed break, in perfect setting"
I was rather pleasantly surprised by the thought and attention in to this lovely apartment; it has everything you could possibly need. The layout has been thoughtfully applied making the most of the space provided eg. stow away murphy beds making it a light and airy dwelling. There was plenty of bedding and towels available which I thought would be useful if a familycame with childen. It has a well planned kitchen dining area should you want to cook and eat in, however there are so many local places to eat and drink that we didn't bother.
The complex is close to the private beach, but if sand isn't your thing there are three out door pools (one being a toddler pool), and an indoor pool within the healthclub which has a fully equipped gym and beauty parlour. As previously mentioned there are lots of places to eat ranging from a snack to restaurant dining, which also cater for children.
We used the recommended taxi link by Martin which was a seamless trip from airport to apartment, it couldn't have been easier.
We did hire a car venturing up in to the mountains (on the one day we had rain) which were lovely visiting a quaint little spanish town (can't remember the name - sorry) and also finding a fantastic little authentic tapas bar called Las Meigas in Fuengirolla; definately worth a visit, absolutely fantastic catalan cuisine.
All in all I can't fault this apartment, we did see one cockroach but there is spray provided and it IS the mediteranean. The apartment was spotlessly clean, well stocked and well located, there is a shop on the complex and spanish supermarkets very close by.
I would definately recommend this as a holiday destination/stay and will be going back, looking to book in April!
