Sfaka mountain village is on the northeast coast of Crete, situated between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. For those looking for a relaxing and peaceful holiday this is the place. Beautiful mountain scenery ideal for walking,bird watching or just chilling out. Crystal clear seas for swimming are a ten minute drive away,snorkeling and fishing are within a 10 minute drive . Historical attractions, Byzantine monasteries, Venetian castles,Minoan archaeological sites all close by. The sleepy fishing village of Mochlos with several good tavernas is a short drive away. There are two mini markets ,two kafenions,and one taverna three minutes from the property. There are three main shopping towns all within 45minutes drive. Sample the the excellent Greek cuisine and locally brewed wine and raki after a relaxing day out.

The Crete region

Crete has a wonderful climate with long sunny days during the summer months. The scenery is stunning and there are many beautiful and secluded beaches including Vai where there is a banana plantation. Places of historical interest include a Minoan Palace at Mochlos , 2 Byzantine churches at Kavousi and the church of Agios Georgios contains frescoes. Sitia also has a Venetian castle which is a museum.
Many archaeological sites are to be found all over the island.

Sitia / Sfaka area

Sitia has everything you need i.e.shops,tavernas,cafes,bars,nightclubs,supermarkets plus a beautiful Blue Flag beach.Airport,Ferry port and Bus station. Other main shopping towns near to Sfaka are Agios Nikolaos and Irepetra. Fishing villages with tavernas nearby are Mochlos,Kavousi,Pachia Ammos.

How to get there

Cheap flights with Easyjet. Olympic, Thomas Cook all fly direct to Heraklion airport during the summer season.
Car hire is advised but coaches and taxis are available outside . The journey to Sfaka is about ninety minutes.
Domestic flights from Athens to Sitia 45 minutes, bus, car ,taxi to Sfaka 45minutes.
Ferry from Athens to Heraklion and Sitia also available.
Airport pick-ups can be arranged on request.

Lovely studio with fantastic outside space,the walks from the door were superb.The area is also great for bird spotting.We spent one month on Crete in four different locations,and this was our favourite as the local area had everything you could want.We thoroughly enjoyed a taste of real Crete,and we liked our friendly but not intrusive hosts.
