The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region
The Costa Dorada is a series of wide sandy beaches with small coves and marinas along its length, with a smattering of still working fishing villages.
Tarragona is where Tiberius was the governor when he became the second Roman emperor and houses ruins to go and see.
Puerta Aventura with its theme and waterparks is only a 40 minute drive or train journey from Sitges.
Great golf and challenging Pitch & Putt courses abound.
Sitges is a cosmopolitan town only 36kms from Barcelona. It is popular with artists and the gay community because of the over 300 days of sunshine that the town normally enjoys, being protected by the Garraf. Originally a fishing village dating from the 11th century the town has become more of a mecca for those seeking a great night-life, lazy days on the beach and a host of extramural activities:
*Carnaval - usually in February (06 to 13 Feb in 2013) - is an hedonistic and costume drama
*Vintage car rally in March shows off the old crocks
*Gay Pride 13 to 20 June 2013
*Corpus Christi in June when the streets are decorated with flower petals in intricate designs
*Fiesta Major in the third week of August with fireworks on the 23rd
*Fiesta Minor in the third week of September, with fireworks on the evening of the 22nd
*Wine harvest celebrations around 12 September and Catlonia National day on 11 September
*Sitges International Theatre Festival in September
*Sitges Film Festival in early October with the now famous "Zombie Walk" on the second Saturday
all make for a full and varied calendar of events, completed with the Christmas Day promenade stroll usually in glorious warm sunshine with the more mature ladies wrapped up in their furs!
