Hortensia Cottage
About the home
On the edge of the charming village of Siran, Hortensia Cottage is tucked away in a quiet corner, within easy walking distance of the village centre. Hortensia Cottage is an old stone cottage with two totally private walled courtyards to the front & rear, where jasmine & hydrangea grow. Both courtyards are equipped with garden furniture.
The interior of the cottage is pleasantly furnished, in harmony with its village setting. The cottage has a pleasant lounge area with wood burning stove, satellite TV & DVD player. Off the lounge area is a fully fitted modern kitchen/dining area with full oven & hob, microwave & all crockery & utensils. From the kitchen, french doors lead out on to the secluded rear walled courtyard which attracts the morning sun & is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast. In the afternoon the sun moves on to the front terrace which is an ideal setting for your evening meal or a BBQ.
On the first floor there are two double bedrooms & a fully fitted bathroom with bath, shower, toilet & hand basin. A further flight of stairs leads to the large open plan grenier which is fully furnished with a king size bed, chaise longue & armchairs. The grenier has an en suite bathroom & walk in wardrobe & enjoys views over the vineyards towards the Pyrenees.
Hortensia Cottage can very comfortably accommodate six people. There is also a cot in the property for younger guests.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region

The charming village of Siran, with a population of approximately 600, is set in the heart of the Minervois wine growing region. Siran has a small local supermarket, a boulangerie, a friendly bar and two excellent restaurants. The village is 5km from the Pepieux leisure lake for swimming, boating and wind surfing. A short drive to the north east brings you to the beautiful fortified citadel of Minerve with its ramparts and deep canyons. Alternatively, a short drive south will bring you to the tree lined banks of the Canal du Midi. A 30 to 45 minute drive (depending upon which resort you choose) will take you to the Mediterranean coast & the excellent beaches of Narbonne, Gruissan & Valras.
Also not to be missed is the magical walled city of Carcassonne in the heart of the Cathar region, with its narrow streets, restaurants & museums. Carcassone is a 30 minute drive away & is the location of the Carcassonne Salvaza airport, to which direct Ryanair flights arrive daily from Stansted, East Midlands, Liverpool, Dublin, Cork & Shannon airports.
The Siran area
Siran is situated on the Cathar trail & has many fortified towns, villages, chateaux & citadels close by. In the surrounding hills you can enjoy horse riding or even white water rafting. The Mediterranean coast is just a short drive away.
Also just a short drive away is the excellent fortified city of Carcassonne where in addition to the medieval walled city there is a leisure lake with man made beach & life guard supervised swimming. An excellent location for families to enjoy a day out.
The capital of the region is the town of Olonzac which is just 10 minutes away & where there is a lively market every Tuesday.
The village is surrounded by vineyards, many of which are open to the public for wine tours & tasting. An English speaking resident of the village arranges orgainsed tours of the local vineyards which includes pick up & drop off at Hortensia Cottage, wine tastings & a meal. Full details available on request.
There are many paths a trails in the area for walkers. Alternatively, for the more adventerous Andorra is approximately 2 hours drive away with its many mountain & lake walks & hikes.
Ideal for a day trip, Barcelona is 2 & a half hours away by car or why not take the train from nearby Narbonne?
