Casa da Bia (cottage)

Home description

The cottages have been in the family for over 50 years, having been bought new by my grandfather. They have been used as the family holiday home for three generations. They have undergone extensive renovations in the winter of 2004 and are now completely refurbished. Both houses are surrounded by traditional courtyards with grape vines and flower beds - a great place for barbecue's! - each having exclusive access to their own courtyard. If you wish to rent both properties, access between the two can be given. Sea views can be seen from the door porch and it's only a short walk to the beach. There is also an Olympic sized swimming pool by the beach for those who do not wish to venture the waves which includes a children's pool as well. We've got our own website for these properties where you can find more photos and extra information. Please contact us for our web site address. The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region

The cottages are located in the small, welcoming sea village of Praia das Maçãs, with a friendly atmosphere, attracting all age groups. Situated on the west coast of Portugal, just north of Lisbon, Praia das Maçãs is only 12km from the exquisitely beautiful world heritage site town of Sintra which boasts amongst it’s major attractions, the Moorish castle and the fairy-tale like Palácio da Pena (Pena Palace). There is also easy access to Lisbon itself, the famous casino in Estoril, or the beautiful marina at Cascais.

Whether on a romantic break, family or friends holiday the choices are endless both in activities and entertainment, with golden sandy beaches just a small stroll away. You're spoilt for choice with so many great seafood or traditional Portuguese cuisine restaurants just a few minutes walk from the house (and the beach!), where you can relax and enjoy life... with a nice glass of wine! It won't cost you an arm and a leg either, so you can try a different one each night.

A lot of thought has gone into all the properties, which are spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Nice bed linen and a good set of towels for each guest is also provided.

There are no hidden extras, all the gas, electric and water are included in the rental price.

"We usually stay on campsites in France for our holidays, but this year decided to try Lisbon and were very happy to find Ralph and Ana's cottages in Praia das Maçãs. The accommodation was lovely and very convenient for the beach and restaurants. We enjoyed driving out to discover different unspoiled beaches and try the surf up and down the coast and especially liked the Guincho beaches.
Sintra is also a fascinating place with the Quinta da Regaleira a must for exploring with the kids and we enjoyed finding our own route up to the Moorish Castle at the top of the hills.
Lisbon was also interesting especially the aquarium at the old Expo site which has been developed with several activities and a big shopping centre! Should we decide to visit this area again (which is highly likely) we would definitely look up Ralph and Ana's accommodation as they were superb hosts."
