The town of Sintra is a close-by World Heritage Site and well worth a day's visit. Lisbon itself has lots to delight; from taking an old electric tram up the steep hills of Lisbon to whizzing up to the top of the Santa Justa Elevator to get a panoramic view of the city of Lisbon. Do visit Alfama (the old quarter) and be sure to wear comfortable rubber soled shoes to avoid slipping on the cobbles. In the evenings, take in a fado evening over dinner in one of the many restaurants in this area. Bairro Alto is also wonderfully lively at night ? lots of restaurants, fado houses and late night bars/clubs.
June 12th is the night of the Festival of St Anthony; the best night for trying traditional sardines in Lisbon.
Go by tram - #15 is the best - to Belem. It leaves from Pra?a Figueira and stops at Pra?a do Comer?io and Cais do Sodr? before going on to Belem - a wonderful place of fountains, parks, monuments and monasteries.
Worth visiting in the Estremadura and beyond are, ?bidos, Sintra, Azeit?o & Set?bal, Fatima & Nazar?. Alentejo is a little further (about 2 hours) but worth visiting are ?vora and Monsaraz. The Espor?o Wine Estate is worth having lunch at if you are going as far as Monsaraz.
The Praia Grande beach is only 400 m away with a choice of beach bars & restaurants serving wonderfully fresh fish. Praia das Ma?as beach and Azenhas do Mar with fantastic views and various restaurants are only 5 min away. We recomend a visit to Cabo da Roca, Adraga beach, Guincho beach and a tour along the coast to the beautiful villa of Cascais and its beaches.
Along the coast, the choice of beaches is endless, famous for water sports activities, white sandy family beaches & rocky coves, all from 10 to 20 minutes drive.
Praia Grande ? one of the safest beaches around Sintra and accessible by train. The beach often hosts surfing events and has several inexpensive restaurants and bars.
Praia Ma??s ? a fine sandy family beach which can be easily reached by and old tram from Sintra. This beach also offers a good number of restaurants and bars.
Praia da Adraga ? Considered as one of Europe?s best beaches, this beach is located just 15km north of Guincho, close to Sintra. Surrounded by tall cliffs, the beach is definitely unspoiled with clean blue waters.
We are 12 km to Sintra a UNESCO world heritage site with its cultural landscape dotted with palaces, castles and museums.

Arriving in Lisbon
Lisbon's primary airport (Portela) is approximately 40km from Praia Grande. There is a regular shuttle service that operates between the airport Lisbon stations where you can get the train to Sintra. There is never a shortage of taxis, but beware of any taxi drivers that try to take you the long route to wherever it is you're headed. We advise that you acquire a map of the city and have a vague idea where it is you're going.
Alternatively, we are able to offer an airport transfer. Please email us for a quote.
If you are travelling from Faro airport, it is just a 2 and a quarter hours from Lisbon by car. There is also a train service that runs from Faro to Lisbon. Both Lisbon and Faro airports offer a car rental service. http://www.holidayautos.co.uk/ or http://www.skyscanner.net/ offer great prices for car rental and we will provide written and map directions to the apartment - it's really simple.
We can provide plenty of advice and information on local restaurants, shops, leisure activities and places of interest. Your apartment will have a manual which will give you tips for eating locally and things to do.
