This is a secluded little cottage, set in the host's property, 3 min from the center of a cosy small village with all amenities, 15 min on foot from the beach and yet peaceful and isolated. Sintra, part of the World Heritage List, is only 15 min away by car.
Located near Magoito village and its large and beautiful beach, the house allows you to enjoy beach, spectacular walks and views of the coast and surrounding area.

Here are some interesting places to visit in the area.
Cabo da Roca - the western-most point of continental Europe
Sintra, 15km away, is unique and deserves its status as a world heritage site. First the Moors, then the Portuguese kings who expelled them, built their castles and palaces there. Later ages brought rich foreigners who created villas and palaces with lush gardens and romantic architecture - outdone by king Don Fernando, whose bizarre palace anticipated mad King Ludwig's Rhine castles by several years.
The location is ideal for exploring not just Sintra but central Portugal. Lisbon is 40 minutes by car, and Cascais and Estoril are 30 minutes away. Famous Ericeira beach is close by. Further afield: in easy day trips from Sintra, you can visit the walled city of Obidos, the Knights' templar castle of Tomar, and Batalha Abbey, the monastery palace of Mafra, the seaside town of Sesimbra, Ericeira, Palmela castle and Arrabida national park.
The Sintra / Magoito Beach area
Closer to home, some amazing beaches (Magoito, Samarra, Aguda, Praia das Maças Praia Grande etc..)
In Sintra you can visit several Palaces all so different and yet archeologically and historically speaking quite amazing: The Moorish Castle, the Sintra Palace, Pena Palace, Regaleira ; Monserrate ( these last two are my favourite!!)
There is also a Museum of Modern art , the Olga de Cadaval Cultural centre the Science Museum and the Toy Museum.
There are many fairs and festivals during the summer months, and all year around on the second & fourth Sunday of the month in San Pedro de Sintra a big market with anything from veggies to craft and clothes.

We stayed at Zio for two weeks in June and had a lovely time. Our son of 3,5 years loved the animals and the pool. The house had everything you can ask for. Marina and Philip made us feel very welcome. The house became a home. The bikes reminded us of home, how lovely it was to get fresh bread every morning at not even 5 minutes cycling distance. Great area of Portugal. We would love to come/ go back. Thank you Marina and Philip for your hospitality!! |
