Standing on the side of the highest hill in the vicinity of Colares, in the village of Penedo, with the Serra da Sintra mountain range, a World Heritage site and National Park, in the background, this villa boasts stunning views over the valley and the sea towards the local beaches.

It features traditional architectural designs to complement the local setting and has an interior which has been designed for modern living in a classical style. Although private and peaceful, it is nevertheless within easy driving distance of the local amenities.

Small, well-landscaped garden catches the sun most of the day and has night lighting.

Upper Floor:

You will find the spacious, relaxing master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, king-sized bed, satellite TV with DVD player, a window overlooking the surrounding landscape and a French door leading into a sunny terrace with a breakfast table and chairs and sublime views.

There are also two comfortable twin bedrooms served by a family bathroom.

Lower Floor:

A wide and easy staircase leads to a 72 sq.m sitting/dining room area with a window and two French windows leading into the garden and swimming pool.

The sitting room is a light and airy living space with a large screen, HD satellite TV with DVD/video player and recorder and 4-column stero sound. There is also internet access.

The dining room has seating for 12 and has a double-sided, glass-enclosed log fire serving both the dining and sitting rooms.

There is a family wash-room.

The kitchen is fully equipped with an American two-door fridge/freezer with water and ice dispenser, dishwasher, washing and drying machines, double wall-oven, gas hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, electric coffee machine, various electrical kitchen gadgets and a large selection of china, glass, cutlery and cooking utensils. There is also a radio/CD player.

Tthe garden and swimming pool area has frontal views down the valley to the coast and, apart from attracting the sun for most of the day, can enjoy glorious sunsets. You will find garden dining furniture with a large parasol and several cushioned and pool recliners. ; also an automatic awning.

A BBQ is available. The small but well-landscaped garden has mature flowering shrubs and plants, including bougainvillea and roses, and is regularly maintained by a gardener.

The swimming pool, 6 x 4 metres and 1.5 metres deep, is surrounded by decking with a beach-style heated shower next to it and is also maintained weekly by a gardener.

Further details

Bookings must be confirmed by a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the total rental and an email will be sent confirming receipt of the deposit. The remainder is payable no longer than 30 days prior to the commencement of the stay; at the same time, a damages deposit of €500 is also payable, refundable within 7 days of departure, dependent upon inspection.

During the high season, changeover days are on Saturdays; during off-peak seasons, please check with the owner.

A cleaning service is provided on change-over days and each Wednesday. Any extra service can be arranged between the client and the cleaning lady at the clients' cost.

Bed linen, towels (not beach towels) and kitchen linen are provided. Bed linen is changed every Saturday of a stay; towels and kitchen linen are changed every Saturday and Wednesday.

The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region


Approximately 10 minutes' drive away is the World Heritage, historical and elegant town of Sintra, once the holiday haunt of Portuguese and European nobility. William Beckford, Lord Byron as well as several illustrious Portuguese writers have lived there and written extensively about its beauties. Visits to the National Palace, Palacio da Pena, Moorish castle, Rigolera palace, Monserrate palace with its exoctic gardens designed by English landscapers of the Victorian era, historical churches, ancient convents and other sites of inestimable beauty and cultural and natural interest are highly recommended.

There is also a music festival each summer.


Also, within a 15 minutes' drive, alongside the National Park with its impressive, scenic views of mountain and sea, you pass Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point in Europe, and Guincho, with its array of restaurants, ancient fortresses and sandy beaches, before arriving at Cascais and Estoril, two bustling towns boasting excellent restaurants, cafes, shops and nightlife as well as, in Estoril, the world famous Casino.


Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, as well as being accessible by frequent trains from Sintra station, is also an easy 30 minutes' drive away. It is considered one of the loveliest of all European cities and, with its historical past combined with a vibrant present, makes it a must to visit.

Lisbon airport is approximately a 45 minutes' drive away from Penedo.


Within minutes of driving, you will find a choice of sandy beaches, namely Praia Grande with its surfing facilities (home of surfing world championships) and Praia das Macas, where there is a selection of shops and restaurants, specialising in local dishes, especially fish and shellfish etc. Both beaches have Olympic-sized sea-water swimming pools with faciliies for chldren. Also, there is Praia da Adraga, the nearest to the villa, a small sandy and rocky beach with a good restaurant.

A good selection of golf courses can be found within approximately 15 -20 kms distance. As well as golf, a driving range can be found much nearer. Some local activities are available including surfing and riding etc. Nearby, over the weekends, there is a colourful and friendly street market selling fresh fruit and vegetables and other foods.
