The Goa region
Goa is India's smallest state , it is located on the west coast of India in the region known as Konkan . Goa was ruled by the Portuguese for 450 years till it was liberated from the portuguese to form a part of india on 19th december 1961. Goa, having been the meeting point of various races, religions and cultures of east and west over the centuries, has a distinctive style quite different from the rest of India.
Goa is famous for its beaches and places of worship, and tourism is its primary industry. Tourism is generally focused on the coastal areas of Goa. Foreign tourists, mostly from Europe, arrive in Goa in winter whilst the summer and monsoon seasons see a large number of Indian tourists. It is better known to the world as a former Portuguese enclave on Indian soil. Influenced by over 450 years of Portuguese rule and Latin culture, Goa presents a somewhat different representation of the country to foreign visitors.
Goa's beaches cover about 125 kilometres (78 mi) of its coastline. These beaches are divided into North and South Goa. North Goa is more commercial and touristy with an abundance of mostly low and medium budget tourist accommodations; whereas South Goa is where most higher–end hotels and private beaches are located. A notable exception in South Goa is Palolem Beach which features basic accommodation and is one of the most visited beaches in Goa. The further north or south you go, the more isolated the beaches get. Some of the more popular beaches are Colva, Calangute, Baga and Anjuna. These beaches are lined with shacks that provide fresh sea food and drinks. Some shacks arrange special events to attract more customers. Although most people come to Goa to relax and unwind there is more to Goa than just its fabulous beaches. Here are a few ideas of what Goa has to offer
The Portuguese colonized Goa for 450 years and this unique blend of Portuguese and Indian culture is evident in its architecture, mix of religions, cuisine and social structure. There are the colonial old quarters, the magnificent Mansion Houses built at the height of the Portuguese rule and Old Goa, the old capital, built as a testament to the Portuguese wealth and power. There are wildlife sanctuaries, over 400 different species of birds, market towns, a famous flea market which attracts sellers from all over India, designer shops and why not come at Christmas and the Easter Carnival and enjoy some real Goan-style dances. The exuberant Hindu festivals of Diwali and Holi are celebrated with as much enthusiasm by this multi-cultural and well-integrated society.
Goa should be experienced by being out and about. Early morning and late afternoon are perfect times for catching that magical rural scene of bullock cart and driver ambling along country lanes or the water buffaloes having their well deserved mud baths. Watch the sun rise over the River Sal, stand at Chapora harbour and select fish for that evening's meal, fresh from the boats, go to a village festival or Zatra and most of all, meet the people who are fun loving, generous and genuinely want you to have a great holiday.
The villa is located in Candolim, the most picturesque and popular with tourist village in North Goa. The golden sand Candolim Beach is approx 1 km away, with a walking distance of 15 minutes. Other popular beaches like Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator are a short drive away. The beaches has natural golden sand of very fine quality, tall coconut trees, turquoise blue water and the area has some of the most popular bars and restaurants in Goa.
On the beach, you will find a variety of souvenir stalls, snack bars, small restaurants, etc. The beach is a delight for shell collectors and you will find beautiful patterned shells over here. Swimming can be enjoyed in the shallow waters as the current is not that strong here and some beaches are considered quite safe to swim.
Supermarkets are within 5 minute driving distance from the villa. Candolim beach nearby boasts of some of the best eateries. The fresh Goan style sea food served with a warm smile is unbeatable.

"An oasis in the bustle of Northern Goa"
I spent a weekend at this villa in February 2012. The owners were very easy to deal with and made sure the villa was well stocked. The villa is located in a very peaceful gated community. The location is perfect to enjoy all the activities that Northern Goa has to offer. The kitchen was very modern and although we only used it for our breakfast, we could have easily have cooked all our meals in it. There were three bedrooms, a master on the lower level and another two on the upper level. They were all very spacious and the beds were very comfortable. We had a great time hanging out in the veranda and enjoying the tranquility. In short Casa Alegre is perfect for family/friends who want to enjoy Goa.
