La Beziade (gite)

Home description

· La Beziade enjoys a superior position situated on a hilltop within peaceful, rolling countryside but is only two minutes walk from the centre of the village. The gite boasts an attractive south-facing garden with two terraces for al fresco dining. The newly built private salt-water pool is surrounded by a terrace for relaxing and sunbathing, and benefits from a shallow end suitable for children. With two double bedrooms the gite is suitable for either families or a group of friends.

· Located in the Gers region with its gastronomic delights and fantastic local markets. The gite is also within close proximity to several golf courses and the Pyrenees, for those who enjoy skiing, climbing and walking, as well as bastide villages and other historic places of interest.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Gers region

The Gers is one of the best kept secrets in France. Renowned for its gastronomic delights as well as historic sites of interest including the beautiful bastide villages, prehistoric caves and cave drawings; it features some of the most spectacular countryside in France. Located within easy reach of the Pyrenees for skiing or snow boarding in the winter and marvellous walking/climbing in the summer. Close to Toulouse, the major cultural and shopping centre of south west France and Auch, the capital of the Gers, famous for its connection with D'Artagnan and its beautiful cathedral with superb carved choir stalls. Lourdes can be reached within an hour and the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts within 2 hours.

The summer period from mid-June to September is usually hot, with winters being cold but with days when you can eat outside. The months of April/May are mild but with some hot days and it is a wonderful time for wild flowers and walking in the beautiful countryside.

Simorre area

Simorre is a very attractive mainly half-timbered C15th village with a wonderful fortified church. The village has excellent shopping facilities with 2 bakers, butcher, small supermarket, pharmacy, post office and cafe (drinks not food) and is within easy walking distance of La Beziade. For a greater variety of food purchases there are several large supermarkets within 15 mins. of the gite. There are several good restaurants in the area, one on the outskirts of Simorre. Tennis courts available in the village.

For additional activities there are many excellent golf courses, horse riding, climbing, canoeing, rafting all within easy reach. This is excellent walking country, both locally and further afield with magnificent wild flowers and birdlife. Local markets abound selling excellent local produce.

There are numerous music festivals in the summer, both classic and jazz, including the world renowned jazz festival at Marciac which takes place during the first two weeks of August. The towns of Auch, Pau and Lourdes are all worth a visit.

How to get there

Toulouse airport (Blagnac) is approx. 70 kms from La Beziade. It takes approximately 50mins to 1hr to reach my property. Easyjet fly from Gatwick. Flybe from Bristol. RyanAir fly from Stansted to Pau, approximately 1.5hrs from La Beziade. From the East Midlands there are flights to Carcassonne (2hrs from my property).
All the well-known car hire companies are based at Toulouse airport.
Ferries. Dover/Calais. Portsmouth/St Malo.

The gite was fully renovated in 2008 and features fully fitted kitchen, comfortable south facing sitting room with French windows on to terrace and overlooking gardens and pool. The property benefits from:

· Modern, well appointed shower room
· Spacious double bedroom with French windows on to terrace
· Twin bedded room also with French windows on to terrace with space for additional bed if necessary. (Fold up bed available).
· All rooms feature fine views to open countryside and village.

Further details outdoors:
Situated in attractive garden with small orchard. The terraces feature tables and chairs for al fresco dining as well as a BBQ. The new swimming pool is located close to the gite and comfortable sun loungers are provided for relaxing. There is ample room in the garden for other activities such as boules and table tennis (provided).

· Deposit of 25% is payable on booking to secure reservation
· Damage deposit of €200 is required. This will be returned on departure if there are no breakages or damage incurred.
