Our position, in the Historic centre of Simon's Town, immediately above Jubilee Square gives a bird’s eye view of the yacht basin, the naval activity and panoramic views across False Bay to the mountains. It is a short walk to the centre of our Victorian village and its attractive waterfront. In season we watch the whales from our patio. We are an excellent base from which to visit the numerous other attractions the Western Cape has to offer.

The open plan living/dining area is stylishly and comfortably furnished with family antiques and original paintings. Our daily maid Nomsa Nongalo, makes for easy holiday living. Nomsa is delightful, trustworthy and unobtrusive, and takes the drudge out your holiday. The Patio, has stunning sea views and is perfect for outdoor living and relaxing. It is casually appointed with attractive patio furniture and braai facilities. Sunrises are spectacular and at sunset the lovely evening colours reflect on the clouds. The Western Cape region
Simon's Town is the southern-most village on the Peninsular and is best known for it's naval history, it's land based penguin colony and it's enchanting beaches. It was established by the Dutch East India company as a winter anchorage for their trading fleet. The Goede Gift area (where Goede Hoop is situated) was at this time given to a local lady friend of the Dutch Admiral to grow fresh vegetables for the sailors in the well watered fertile soil. In 1806 the British defeated the Dutch for the second time and decided to develop the naval base. During both the 1st and 2nd World Wars the dockyard was vital to the Royal Navy. The South African Navy only took over in 1957 and it is now the only remaining Naval base in South Africa. It still has a strong Naval flavour which is enhanced by it's British connection, strongly evident in both the architecture and character of the village.
Summers, - December to April - are sunny, warm and dry, perfect for sun loving holiday makers. Winters are Simon's Town's best kept secret, Champagne days interspersed with the odd rainy spell which leads to a profusion of spring flowers and whales frolicking in the bay.
From here you can explore the entire Western Cape area. It is forty minutes to the famous Winelands for magnificent scenery, a gourmet meal and wine tasting experience. Or to Cape Town for a cable car ride up Table Mountain, a boat trip to Robben Island, a visit to the V&A Waterfront, colourful Bo Kaap and much more. Take a day trip up the West Coast to view the famous flowers or the charming coastal villages in this lovely area, or go 'oor die berge' (over the mountains) through spectacular mountain passes, or via the coastal route to Hermanus for more glorious scenery.
Simonstown / Historic Mile area
A short flight of steps lead from 'Goede Hoop' into the Victorian village with its Waterfront, shops, restaurants, kayaking and boat rides. A few minutes walk takes you to the beach, or the train for a scenic ride round the Bay. Simon's Town has several museums, not least the Naval museum which is a must for anyone interest in boats or history.
We are conveniently close to the famous land based Penguin Colony and the beautiful Cape Point Nature Reserve with its magnificent scenery and abundant 'fynbos' . There are numerous delightful, sheltered, white sandy beaches, (where you can swim with the Penguins) and several excellent Golf Courses. A short drive takes you round Chapman's Peak Drive to Hout Bay and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Don't miss quirky Kalk Bay with it’s working, fishing harbour and quaint craft and antique shops. We also have horse riding, fishing, diving, hiking and lots more.
