The Western Cape region
The Western Cape, otherwise known as "The Fairest Cape in all the world" enjoys a Mediterranean climate which has dry summers and cool wet winters. Cape Town International Airport averages: January maximum: 26 °C (min: 16 °C), July maximum: 18 °C (min: 7 °C), annual rainfall: 515mm. The Cape Peninsula has a mountainous spine with fabulous hikes, descending down to winelands and a series of pristine beaches, half on the Atlantic (cooler) side, and half on the Indian (warmer water) side. Cape Point is famous for its spectacular cliff faces presiding over the meeting of the two oceans.
Glencairn has its own, smallish beach with tidal pool, and wonderful body surfing. There is a scuba diving store half a block from the house, and False Bay Yacht Club about 3km down the road in the picturesque village of Simonstown. There are wonderful board surfing beaches within ten minutes drive including Kommetjie, home of many international surf competitions. Kite surfing, dinghy sailing, shark diving, wine tasting, hiking, penguin viewing, antique browsing are some of the many activities nearby. There are also nearby theaters and lovely restaurants. False Bay is famous for its whale watching...at the right time of the year, you can lie in bed and watch them frolicking in the bay. Highly rated Clovelly Golf Course is 4.9 kilometers away.
