Home description
Quinta do Montinho (the farm of the small mountain) has a private pool and rests on a South facing hill, surrounded by orange groves. There are spectacular views across central Algarve towards the coast and sea as far as Salema in the East and Portimao, Alvor and Lagos to the West. To the north, there are rolling hills, deep valleys full of wild life, two reservoirs and numerous country walks.
Some of the Algarve's most stunning beaches, such as those with sandstone cliffs and coves, are a 20 minute drive away. Numerous golf courses are within easy reach and how about practising your short game on the 2 greens and bunkers within the grounds of the house. Some clubs and balls are provided.
The property is great for children, but please watch very young children and toddlers as we do have ponds and the property is terraced around the house and pool.

The Algarve region
To all sunlovers - The Algarve is THE place in mainland Europe with the best weather summer and winter! But we do not only have sun.
Firstly the sea - you can laze on the beach, have a dip when it get's too hot - the water is refreshing. Have a go on the pedalloes, ride on the "bananas", hire sailing dinghies or see the caves.
You can go dolphin watching on high speed RIBs, go on a river trip to the historic Silves with its Moorish Castle, or you can go big game fishing. The current European record of a Blue Marlin caught, 385kg, is held here. Most game fish caught are released.
Secondly - we have golf. More Golf courses than you can play on within easy reach. From Portuguese Open Championship courses to par 3, nine hole courses, to the largest fun "pitch and putt"; all for adults and children alike.
The are tennis clubs and lawn bowling, riding, watersports, scuba diving and zoos, beautiful cliff walks along the beaches, country walks in the Monchique mountains with hideaway restaurants and bars.
The historic towns of Lagos - visit the golden church - and Silves - Moorish Castle - and the former capital of the Algarve - are only a short car ride away.
You can have daytrips to the wind worn West coast - surfing mecca of Europe, lovely Lisbon, and super Seville. Or, for those of us who prefer a slower pace, relaxing days by the pool in a secluded garden with barbeques and a refreshing drink, or two!
Silves / Nora area
There's Algarve history galore in Silves - it's a very popular location for Algarve day trips and excursions. Historic sights include Silves' glorious Moorish Castelo/castle and adjacent Igreja Misericoridia Cathedral. Just below the cathedral sits the informative Museum of Archeology, and move further down from the castle for a visit to the Museum of Cork - Silves' award winning museum. Silves has in recent times been a hub for Portuguese cork production - this museum is not to be missed!
Nora is a sleepy hamlet surrounded by rolling countryside. Our neighbouring farms grow mainly oranges, mangoes and avocados.
There is plenty of opportunity for country walks and to the north you have beautiful valleys and the Monchique "mountain".
A short drive away you have a choice of restaurants from the more expensive cordon bleu to cheap and wholesome dish of the day snackbars.
Golf courses are within easy reach by car, also waterparks, zoos and mini golf courses for adults and children alike.
The nearest beach is at Almacao de Pera, a long sandy beach stretching forever. The beautiful cliff beaches at Marinha are worth the extra 15 mins drive - these are the type of beaches the Algarve is so famous for.
How to get there
Many budget airlines fly to Faro International Airport from all over Europe and is an easy 40 minutes drive from the property. Several hire car companies operate from Faro airport.

Further details indoors: The old farmhouse has been extended and brought into the 21st century whilst retaining its old character.
The sitting room has a large fireplace and a triple aspect with 5 sets of french doors leading to a terrace overlooking the garden and pool. There is a traditional "winter" dining room with fireplace, a large kitchen/breakfast room with a separate laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
There are 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in total. All the bedrooms have their own set of french doors overlooking the garden. 2 of the bedroom have double beds, with en-suite bathroom. Bedrooms 3 and 4 have a double bed and a single bed and share the large family bathroom with separate shower and bath. Bedroom 5 has 2 single beds and use of a bathroom with toilet and shower.
In addition there is a gym room with weight machine, treadmill and exercise bike.
Each room is airconditioned - even the kitchen - but with 70 cm walls in many places - the house stays cool even in the hottest temperatures.
Further details outdoors: Access to the fenced property is through double gates to a large drive with parking for several cars.
The farmhouse sits on an acre of lawned garden with ponds, an 11m x 4.5 m swimming pool, two golf greens with bunkers and plenty of lawn on which to kick a ball.
Extensive terracing under roof around the farmhouse and the two cobbled areas under a large olive tree give plenty of space for BBQs, cocktails and sunbathing around the pool.
The garden and farmland which disappears down the hill has many fruit trees, carob, olive, almond, grape, figs and orange and not to forget lemon trees providing all year round fresh lemons for your gin & tonic!
Enjoy the two hole golf course with greens and improve your short game. Practice getting out of bunkers. Swim in the large pool and explore the further grounds which plunge over the edge towards the lovely smelling orange groves down the hill.
Easter and Spring time are a particular treat when the countryside is lush and green with an abundance of wild flowers. The farmhouse is surrounded by fantastic walks with lovely views without having to cross a single tarmaced road.
