About the home

The Art Ark is a well isolated wooden chalet with all the comforts that you need. You can relax, kids can play, cool off in the pool, jump on trampoline, go for lovely walks and mostly enjoy the wonderful silence surrounding the Ark. You can take a load off your mind and even try to brush up your artistic skills!

The owner is an artist, teacher and single parent of a young boy. Her property is therefore a great base for holidaying with kids. I can offer babysitting, advice on the best beaches, restaurants and places to visit.You might want to take home more than a suntan and can make your own pot, sculpture, painting or tile work while you are here.

The Ark also is perfect for lone travellers, single parents and people who just want to have a quiet time or explore and get to know the Algarve and the rest of Portugal. Whatever your reason for coming, I can guarantee you will have a lovely holiday!

The Ark is an open space chalet. It is tastefully furnished with tile paintings and art all around you.

It has a kingsize double bed, a double sofa bed and a children's bed/cot. I can provide some toys for the kids too to make travel lighter!

It has a separate kitchen area and separate bathroom. There is also a reading area, and a painting corner for the kids.

Further details outdoors:
The Ark is nestled among its own fenced in garden with terrace and barbecue area. We share a large above-ground pool, yet I would also recommend the ocean for swimming.

The surrounding area is safe and great for walks, and is completely quiet.

While you are visiting the Algarve, Portugal and the Ark it is possible to add another highlight to your holiday.The region is well knows for its pottery and ceramic arts and craft. As an artist and a teacher I can offer my guests an introduction to ceramics. You have the opportunity to paint onto tiles, creating entire paintings or to make sculptures and pots out of clay and porcelain. I am happy to offer this to my guests, either adults or children but this service will be charged extra, depending on times and projects.

Conditions

A 25% deposit is payable upon booking. This is returnable as long as you cancel more than two months before your arrival.

A further 25% is payable one week before your arrival, and the remaining balance is payable upon arrival.

The Algarve / Central Algarve region

The Algarve is a very versatile holiday destination: warm for most of the year, lush in winter and dry in summer. From here you can explore the rest of the country with day trips to Lisbon or to Seville in Spain. Just ask and I will give you all details you might need!

While you are here explore the countryside and visit lovely little towns. There are water parks very close by as well as the mountain of Monchique,a blessing in the heat of the summer.I am an active horse rider and can organise trail riding and hacks.

The Silves area

Silves is away from the main coast but close enough for all the main beaches, long stretchy and sandy ones to more sheltered cove beaches. There is plenty to explore in Silves being an historical town with its architectual museum and archaeological sites.

In the summer of course it is hot, yet there will always be a slight breeze to make things cooler,.The nights can get cold enough for a light jacket to be worn. From Silves you can easily explore the whole of the Algarve, as we are equidistant from the east and the wilder west part of the coast.

The Ark is situated among orange groves and close to the beautiful Moorish town of Silves, where you also find a bustling market on Saturdays, street cafes and Fado restaurants. You have all amenities very close by, can walk into the local village for a dance at the baille or just have a drink with the locals. If you do not fancy cooking every night, restaurants are within walking distance.

The Ark is aimed at the budget traveller and I will make sure you have a wonderful time and go home relaxed, happy and with the feeling to know a little about the Eden of Europe, the Algarve.

“TIRED !” Unfortunately the Art Ark has seen better days! The last quote in the guest book are from 2007, however 2011 sees it in a much worse for wear state! Cleanliness wasn't the best (shower curtain was horrendous, used cotton buds under the bed) a lot of the amentities, eg tiled eating area was overgrown and the tables and chairs there were broken and unusable, the barbeque was filthy and completely wrecked/ One of the main draws to the property for us was the horses, there weren't any and hadn't been for over 2 years! There was only one pool which had no filter system in operation and was slimey and unkempt! The owner was helpful when required but unfortunately seemed oblivious to the 'tired' uncared for state of the Ark Response: Dear Guests. I am sincerley sorry and certainly concerned about that review. Since that time the Ark has had an uphaul and overall facelift. We are not 5 star luxury but hope to be 6 star in having people feel at ease and happy while staying with us. The Ark is lovely, it has all comforts needed, a new bathroom, refitted kitchen and cleanliness is garantied! I am an artist, ceramicist, a teacher and have a young family. Please let us welcome you and share the beauty of this spot in the Algarve.

Petra the owner made us feel quite at home relaxed and gave us the freedom to explore the countryside all around which was filled with the aroma of figs,almonds,lemons,pomegrantes which was some of the things growing in abundance.
Petra is a keen horse rider and owns a beautiful stallion and two shetland ponies and two friendly dogs which she rescued and they are so grateful and loyal.
There is also a plunge pool and if you are into crafts and art then this is idyllic as Petra will show you how to create a ceramic work of Art.Like Painting then the scenery all around is ideal.
We would definetely go back the accommodation is basic but you only get what you pay for and you have all you need and if your not happy then you should leave because this is a place for total relaxation or ideal base to see the rest of the Algarve.
We barbecued most evenings with the sun still shining till late and sat listening to the birds and watched the sun going down sound Romantic yes it was.
Ideal getaway for couples it will make you or break you so go on get in touch with Petra she will take care of you .
