Casa Velha is a charming traditional farm cottage with a wealth of character and exudes a welcoming, friendly atmosphere, with more than a ‘hint of boutique’. The interior is cosy, light and airy, beautifully decorated and furnished to create a home-from-home feel with atmospheric lighting, scented candles and incense to enhance the customer experience.
The cottage comprises two bedrooms + sofa bed, two bathrooms (both with bath, shower attachment, toilet and basin, one with bidet), lounge with seating for four and wood burning stove, separate dining room with seating for six and a fully equipped kitchen. Rooms have high pitched wooden ceilings, adding to its innate charm.
The cottage is surrounded by its own extensive gardens with lawns, full of established native plants, along with fruit trees (lemon, orange, lime, satsuma and apple). The spacious south facing terrace extends the length of the property with table and seating, featuring traditional Portuguese traditional tiled benches. The hot tub is on an additional side terrace. Outside lanterns and candles enhance the night-time experience, adding to the hot tub atmosphere under bright, starry skies.

Beautifully decorated inside and out, the cottage exudes charm and character with solid wooden furniture, easy-on-the eye decor, comfortable sofas and chairs and traditional tiled flooring with rugs. The split level nature of the layout adds to its personality - walking down a level to reach the main bedroom, stepping down from the dining room into the sitting room.
For comfort the lounge has a ceiling fan and there is a portable fan as well. Wood burning stove kicks out ample radiated and convected heat in winter months and the main bedroom has a fitted wall radiator if extra heat is required + oil-filled radiator.

The gardens of Casa Velha are exceptional, full of native plants such as Bougainvillaea, Lilies (Cana, Cala and African), sweet-scented Oleandar, Hibiscus and Lantana as well as a few roses for the English! The fruit trees seem to bear fruit most of the year - lemon, orange, lime, satsuma, apple. The gardens surround the cottage, with lawns to the front and rear - so plenty of choice as to where to BBQ the local sardines. The south-facing sun terrace runs the length of the property and has shade-providing, aromatic jasmine and honeysuckle, along with scented rose geraniums. Traditional Portuguese tiled benches complement the garden table, seating and sun loungers. The hot tub is on its own, additional side terrace.

The area has many beautiful beaches and an abundance of country side with plenty of wildlife and is great if you enjoy walking, bird watching and other outdoor pursuits such as pony trekking. Artists/painters will find much to inspire them both on the coast and here in the countryside.
The Silves / Poco Barreto area
Casa Vehla is found at Caravela, inland from the beach 'Armacao de Pera', nestled in the hills above Alcantarilha - a perfect retreat from the coastal resorts.Caravela is a small community of villas located near Silves and within a 40 minute drive from the delightful Monchique mountains. There is a small grocery shop towards Poco Barreto and more amenities and restaurants in nearby Algoz. Car hire is essential, enabling you to explore the spectacular Algarve beaches, the dramatic Portuguese west coast, the blue hills of the Monchique and the historic towns and cities of the Algarve. Poco Baretto has a top quality restaurant, O'Alambiquie, where Chris Evans is reported to have had his wedding reception!

Flights - To Faro.
Easy Jet tend to be the best overall. However, check out Skyscanner.net for options. EasyJet now operate a limited but good value service from Southend which is worth looking at. Other airlines inlcude Monarch and Thompson, and RyanAir (not Gatwick).
Some people like a two centre holiday - ie a few days in Lisbon, followed by rest and relaxation at Casa Velha. It is easy through airlines like EasyJet to fly to one destination and return from another -- collecting your car at one and returning to the other.
Tranfer to andfrom Airport
The car journey takes about 45 minutes, about 20 of which is on the Motorway, A22.
Car Hire is essential.

Alternatively, if you are planning a long holiday, you can always drive! Sailing or Eurostar to France or Northern Spanish coast. Door to door is c 1,400 - 1,500 miles! You will drive through beautiful scenery, but need to allow lots of time!
Car hire is essential. I can recommend a small company for good rates, or you may have your own deals with the main companies. All the large Car Hire companies (Europecar etc), operate out of Faro airport.

We spent a Christmas Eve in the Casa Velha and it was one of the best holidays we had. We use to rent cottages quite often and can say that Casa Velha is one of the best we experienced. Very easy communication with the owner, after arrival we were welcome by a lady who takes care about the house to make sure all was prepared for our stay. The cottage is nicely located in a quite area with a view over a Nick Faldo's designed golf course. Breakfast in sunrise, watching the stars from the jacuzzi with a glas of wine or fire place in the lounge room made our Christmas romantic, unforgettable time. We can very recommend this cottage. |

We stayed in Casa Velha in July on our way to the Algarve from Lisbon and absolutely loved it. The accommodation was great, the terrace had wonderful views over the countryside and we enjoyed star-gazing in the hot tub at night with a glass of vino or two! We loved the privacy of the location and recommend for a relaxing break. |

Rental rates include gas and electricity.
If additional cleaning is required during your stay, this is charged at 12 euros per hour. A welcome pack can be provided for an additional £10, to include bread, butter, water , bottle of white wine and crisps.
Booking conditions:
A non refundable deposit of 25% of the rental (see below for tariff) is payable upon confirmation of booking. Telephone bookings will be held for four days until written confirmation is received together with the deposit. The balance of the deposit is payable 6 weeks prior to departure. Payment in full is requested for bookings made less than eight weeks prior to departure.
On the day of departure you are requested to vacate the property by 10 am.
At the owner's discretion, a security deposit of £200, (cheque) is payable prior to departure. This will be returned pending inspection of the property upon departure.
