The Algarve region
The Algarve, Portugal is considered by many to have one of the healthiest and most agreeable climates in the world ideal for the holidaymaker, golfer and outdoor sport enthusiast.
The Algarve enjoys long, dry summers with an average of 12 hours of sunshine per day, it's unusual to see any rain at all between early-June and mid-September.
In recent years, summer temperatures have averaged 28-30ºC, sometimes with highs sometimes in the 40ºs, but thanks to the freshening influence of the Atlantic breezes even summer days are comfortable.
Winters are mild and often equate to a typical Northern European spring with temperatures averaging about 16ºC and with around 6 to 8 hours of sunshine per day. The region's rainfall occurs mainly between the months of October and March and there is a pleasing variation between the four seasons of the year.
There are a vast array of thing to do and see in the Algarve. There are 4 large water parks Aquashow, Parque Atlantico, Aqualand and Slide & Splash. Slide and Splash at Lagoa and Aqualand at Alcantarilha are easily accessible and offer restaurant-cafeteria and bar facilities and several swimming pools in addition to a fantastic array of exciting ways to plunge yourself into the water at great speed. Toward the eastern end of the Algarve, near the town of Loulé there are two more excellent water parks, Aquashow and Parque Atlántico.
We can arrange return transport from your accommodation to any of the attractions featured here... prices upon request.
Zoomarine is the Algarve best family theme park. Here you can swim with Dolphins, see Lion and Birds of Prey shows, visit the 4D Cinema or the aquarium, or just enjoy the rides, the pool and the water slide.
Why not try Karting at Almancil, there are 2 fabulous carting circuits, the larger follows the exact layout of the Formula 1 track at Jacarepágua, and was opened by Ayrton Senna himself.
A smaller track is geared to younger drivers. There is a grandstand and club-house with bar and restaurant. Competitions are held regularly and many events are open to visitors.
An event you can´t afford to miss is FIESA, a mega exhibition of sand sculptures held in Pêra, Algarve.
Every year, a group of talented sculptors from various parts of the world join to shape thirty-five thousand tons of sand into sculptures, with a different theme each year. It's considered the largest sand sculpture festival in the world and can be visited day or night, when the sculptures are wonderfully illuminated by lights.
To see the Algarve from a different perspective there are some boat trips from Silves to Portimão along the Rio Arade, which give a short time (just over an hour) to explore before returning whilst the tide is still high enough. Or maybe you'd prefer a Dolphin Safari, these are available from Lagos Marina.
