A very attractive old farmhouse set in a private 5700m2 fenced garden with remote control gate access. The 9x4.5 meter pool is also fenced for child safety, and is set in a wide grassy lawn, with plenty of shade under pines & weeping willows. This popular villa offers spacious comfort - all rooms have private bathroom - three different living rooms, and a gorgeous new outdoor bbq dining shed, recently custom built right outside of the kitchen and indoor dining room, so very convenient for bringing stuff in an out of the house at mealtime!
Again I´ll insist on the excellent location, 7 kms away to Sils and the commuter train to Barcelona (55 minute ride, €6 to Placa de Catalunya, trains every hour) and only 25 km inland from the Costa Brava beaches. Girona is 20 kms north and Barcelona is 70 kms south on the AP-7 highway, 7 kms from the house.
This is a great area for exploring the entire region, from Barcelona and even Port Adventura, to the Costa Brava beaches and the low-Pyrenees mountains to the north west.

Description of the house:
The early 18th C building has been completely remodeled, and most of the common rooms are on the elongated ground floor, each of which seems to have a convenient separate entrance from the lawn area in front. The main entrance opens onto a small vestibule, which separates the traffic: 1) to the right for the hallway to the large kitchen and dining area and second living room, 2) straight ahead for the staircase up to the first floor 4 bedrooms, and 3) a couple of steps up to the left leads to the main living room, which measures well over 45m2, and has three sofas, and dining or game table for 10 or 12, a small cast-iron chimney, a large flat-screened TV with DVD player, and a good-sized radio/cassette/CD player. The sloping ceiling is high, and to the large windows, the room is very bright as well as spacious.
Downstairs to the right on the way to the kitchen and dining room and second living room you will pass the 3 downstairs bedrooms, each one with a smallish private bathroom. Two bedrooms have two single beds and one bedroom has a double bed.
Also in the hallway is a little atmospheric sitting room with a round card table, a nice spot to read or play a game away from the other two indoor living areas.
Next down the hall on the right is the kitchen, a large modern chrome professional restaurant-style kitchen, with excellent professional kitchen type gas hob, and all the usual appliances: large fridge, dishwasher, oven and hob and extractor, double sink, toaster, juicer, mixer, etc, etc.
Just beyond the kitchen is the indoor dining room with 3 tables with 6 chairs each, and just beyond that to your left, another living room with wicker chairs and another TV. This makes for two separate TV living rooms, very convenient if you have children who want to watch their own shows. From throughout the downstairs living areas, there is direct access to the garden with sliding front doors, also very convenient.
Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, two on each side of the landing: each room with 2 single beds and a private bathroom with one of those small half-bathtubs that are really only to use for showers. The rooms are somewhat sparsely decorated, a bit spartan, but they are of a good size and the views from the upstairs rooms are delightful!
All windows have shutters to keep out the early morning light and all windows have mosquito netting, just in case!

The house is surrounded by kilometers and kilometers of hilly fields and the wide sweep of the views of distant mountains on three sides is very impressive. Access to the fenced property is by remote control gate, and there is a covered parking area set away from the house behind a clump of trees so that your main view from the house is not of a bunch of cars!
The area around the pool is all grassy lawn under new shade trees, and as I said before, just out from the kitchen door and the diningroom door is the very pretty new outdoor bbq dining area, where I am sure most guests are going to have most of their meals in the warm summer months.
There are plenty of tables here, lighting for meals at night, and a permanent ping ping table here on hand to keep the competition alive. All told, a very very nice place!

What can one say about the Costa Brava?
Often considered a blend of the Côte d'Azur & Tuscany but with a Spanish flair for fun, the Costa Brava is rightfully famous as one of Europe's premiere holiday destinations. Why?
From the breathtakingly beautiful coastline, where wide beaches of golden sand and crystal clear waters alternate with rocky promentories and little coves backed by sheer cliffs topped with pine and oak forests, the Costa Brava boasts 150 blue-flag, top notch beaches. The interior of the Costa Brava is every bit as stunning as the coast (and far less touristy, of course!), with pristine medieval villages set in typically Mediterranean landscapes on the coastal plain, looking very much like Tuscany, and quickly ascending to typically Alpine landscapes as you work your way up into the Pyrenees, with trout-filled streams feeding environmentally protected lakes - like the one in Banyoles - offering a welcome alternative to the coastal beaches, yet only half an hour away by car.
There is always plenty to do. My 90-page guidebook describes 10 routes you can take on daytrips throughout the region. From village to village and including historical sites, recommended beaches, local festivities and folklore, restaurants, market towns, etc -- the guidebook in indispensable for gettting the most of your holiday and steering you clear of the worst tourist-traps in the area. Included are info on the 14 golf courses on the Costa Brava, numerous aquaparks & go-carting circuits, and every town seems to have a horseback-riding club & bicycle rental.
... but of course the main reason for coming to this part of the world is for the good weather, the laid back and friendly local atmosphere, and the excellent and very affordable food and drink. My guidebook explains local dishes, recommends restaurants and cafés, markets and specialty shops, and includes a guide to Spanish wines and cavas. By the way, my favorite local prix fix lunch menus cost about 10 Euros for a 3 or 4 course meal, including wine.
While I am being asked to talk about the Costa Brava, most people enjoy a day trip or two to Barcelona, city center is only one hour away by car or local commuter train. Many guests will also make their way to the Port Aventura amusement park, two hours due south, just off the AP-7 highway, just a few kms from the house. Day trips into Southern France are also recommended, the French border is just a 40-minute drive due north.

To sum up in one quick phrase, the Province of Girona and Costa Brava is often described as "a quintessentially Mediterranean experience". After only 23 years living here, I couldn't agree more!
The Corniche between Tossa and San Feliu is one of our favourite stretches of coastline in the Costa Brava. Once out of Tossa the coastal road (G682) climbs steeply and for the next 22 km runs high above the red cliffs, twisting and turning through luxuriant groves of pine and cork oak, with sudden views of jutting headlands and small calas, the water changing in colour from emerald green to cobalt. Make a point of stopping at the miradors, the little parking lots from which you can take in the scenery.
At intervals, the road swoops down to circle an inlet and you will see abrupt turn-offs that lead to little calas which you can drive or walk down to, some with restaurants or a chiringuito, (a makeshift snack-bar, sometimes with a busy barbecue). Tucked away in these little calas are beaches for all tastes.
This house is situated a kilometer up unpaved but not rugged road from the main C-63 road just outside Riudarenes, 22 kms from the coast. Riudarenes is a village with a bakery, fishmonger, butchershop, and a couple of good restaurants. The area is well known for its concentration of good restaurants, and Santa Coloma de Farners has an important Spa, the Magma, with very reasonable fees for day-guests, where you pay an entrance fee and then extra for the spa treatments you choose. The house is also near several Golf courses, including PGA course at Caldes de Malavella (7km).
