Villa Nazar Boncuk
About the home
Set in the quiet and well kept holiday village of Mavikent between the pine woods and the sea, this is an ideal place to escape from the rush of modern life and unwind. The house is spacious with air conditioning, solar energy panels for constant hot water, tiled throughout and comfortably furnished for seven people. Ideal for a family holiday with a large covered balcony for dining and enjoying sea and mountain views. Both bedrooms have balconies and there is a sun terrace on the roof.
When you can tear yourselves away from the well equipped beach, [which has blue flag accreditation] and the sparkling clear sea, there is plenty to explore, from little villages on market day to ancient castles and monuments. There are good restaurants in Tasucu and Silifke, also many little shops and bazaars to explore for handicrafts, carpets, embroidery, etc. From Tasucu [20 km away] you can take a day trip by hydrofoil or ferry to Girne [Kyrenia] in North Cyprus. The Mediterranean Coast region

This part of the coast is covered in pine woods, very fragrant in summer. There are about three hundred days of sunshine in the year. It is a really unspoilt area with the Taurus mountains in the background and varied farming on the coastal plain. From Tasucu port [about twenty km away] you can take a day trip to North Cyprus. The region is incredibly rich in ancient sites – the Alahan monastery, Kizkalesi [Maiden’s Castle], the caves of Heaven and Hell, Uzuncaburc and the Grotto of the Three Graces at Atakent, to name just a few. Kizkalesi is a vibrant holiday resort with a flat, sandy beach, pedalos, etc. Also plenty of other beaches and restaurants along the coast to the east.
The Silifke / Mavikent area
A minibus service runs twice weekly from Mavikent to Silifke, the nearest large town, where there are pleasant modern avenues and a park on the banks of the river. Don't miss Ali Usta's Kebab House, round the corner from Migros Supermarket on Ataturk Boulevard. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes all over the town. The old quarter is full of little shops and bazaars to explore for jewellery, handicrafts, carpets, embroidery, etc. The Friday market is enormous. The Otogar has frequent coach and minibus services to the rest of Turkey.
Tasucu has a lively open market and good restaurants.
You can follow the ancient pilgrim route from Kizkalesi for 40 km up to Uzuncaburc, where there are the remains of a massive Greco-Roman city set in very picturesque countryside. As always in Turkey, local women have set up a small diner there and speak a few words of English - the food is simple but satisfying.
