BookThe Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region
The property is located in the Vendee, a 5 minute drive from Sigournais or 10 minutes from Chantonnay which is the nearest large town, 45 - 60 minutes from Sable d'Olonne, la Rochelle, Nantes and Poitiers.
This ancient house is in a hamlet nestling in the glorious countryside of the Vendee and parts of the hamlet date from the seventeenth century. Many of the hamlet's original occupants worked at the famous chateau de Sigournais. The location is the place to unwind completely, there is virtually no traffic but sometimes the occasional tractor! It is particularly peaceful.
There are working farms close by and it is not unusual to see cows grazing in the fields around Sigournais. Over the fields to the right of the house you can see the chateau and it's original driveway through an avenue of trees.
Sigournais is a 10 minute walk away. There is a general store, a hairdresser and a bar/restaurant
.
Chantonnay is about a 10-minute drive away where there are many shops including two large supermarkets. There is a general market on Thursday and a food market on Saturday. There is also a cinema and a swimming pool, plus numerous restaurants and bars.
The Sigournais area
Spend a day at the beaches of Sable d'Olonne, la Tranche or la Faute, take a boat out in the Marais Poitevin (green Venice of France). Go for lunch in the port of La Rochelle and antique hunt in the afternoon or see the sights.
The Lac du Rochereau, 5 minutes from the Barn, is probably one of the most beautiful spots you have ever seen. You can swim from its beach, take a boat out, have a picnic, admire and paint the views, or try fishing for carp.
Go for a day's sightseeing or shopping in Nantes or Poitiers. Nearby there's riding, horse racing, surfing, water sports, cycling, running, golfing and night clubs for the energetic!
Also there's ballooning, bird watching, walks, forests, canoeing, many places of historic interest, markets, a zoo, villages, lots of bars and restaurants for the not so energetic.
Sigournais is only 25km from the Puy du Fou, the second biggest tourist attraction in France after the Eiffel tower. This is a spectacular day out for all the family. Its celevrates the Vendee's wonderful heritage.
