Home description
If your looking for an ideal vacation spot to relax and enjoy the magnificently unspoilt Siennese countryside while relaxing with a good book by the pool, or if your prefer making cultural excursions to any of the numerous surrounding hilltowns, Castelnuovo Tancredi is the place for families with children, or even groups of friends who want to get away from it all.
This spacious and well decorated apartment will make you fall in love with the rolling hills of Tuscany and the medieval hilltop towns, festivals and cultural highlights that this marvellous region has to offer. The Orcia Valley is still quite undiscovered and for this reason it is the ultimate spot to stay in Tuscany . The hamlet of Castelrotto, or broken castle, is composed of 3 separate and independent accommodations, all with their own private gardens and intimate outdoor eating areas, although they share a pool. Care and attention were of the priority when this property was renovated to maintain the Tuscan feel and atmosphere.
Il Colombaio apartment is on the second floor of the stone farmhouse which is typical of the country homes of this area where the animals and stalls where on the ground level and the family lived upstairs. This spacious and well decorated accommodation has 4 large double bedrooms with two baths, one of which is en suite for 2 of the bedrooms.

The Tuscany region
Presently recognized as an important agricultural centre on the gentler side of the Sienese Clay Hills. Buonconvento already flourished in ancient times thanks to its particular geographical situation: at the confluence of the Arbia and Ombrone rivers on one hand, and along the route of the all-important mediaeval Via Francigena on the other.
Amongst the numerous sights worth seeing are an uncommon number of fine Liberty-style noble farm houses. There are many castles scattered over the surrounding land, such as the fortress of Bibbiano Guiglieschi, which is over a thousand years old, the tower of Bibbiano and the great architectural complex of Castelnuovo Tancredi. Many of these castles and patrician farm houses are inhabited by decendents of the original owners and are not open to the public unfortunately.
Nearby: Montalcino, San Quirico d' Orcia, Vescovado di Murlo
Siena / Buonconvento area
The main tourist attraction (apart from the typical gastronomic delights such as the Val d'Arbia DOC white wine and vinsanto, or the white truffles from the Sienese Clay Hills) is, however, the important Sacred Art Museum, which houses works from the local churches: amongst these are paintings by Sano di Pietro and Matteo di Giovanni, as well as interesting wooden and marble sculptures. Distances Siena 28 Km - Florence 95 Km - Pisa 140 Km After Siena town, the most famous places in the area are: San Gimignano, famous for its towers Monteriggioni, the walled town, pretty but very small. Colle val d' Elsa, is a big town divided into 3 different levels, colle bassa, alta and castle Castellina in Chianti, the heart of Chianti Radda in Chianti, for me the prettiest town of the Chianti area Murlo,a very interesting etruscan museum at Vescovado di Murlo Asciano, the area nearby and the near Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore Pienza, the perfect town Montalcino, the town of the famous wine with many great restaurants San Quirico d' Orcia ,the door over the Val d' Orcia Bagno Vignoni ,antique thermal baths Montepulciano ,beautiful rinascimental town Radicofani at the foot of the Monte Amiata Rocca d' Orcia with the imposing tower Chiusi ,impressive the Duomo and the Etruscan rests Abbey of San Galgano is definitely worth the visit Abbey of Sant' Antimo is another must Twice a year on July 2 and Aug. 16 the famous Palio of Siena takes place and is definitely one of the most popular of italian traditional festivities.

Many warm thanks to the team at Castelnuovo Tancredi for making our New Years holiday week the best one ever! Everything was just perfect for our group of friends and we really had a great time discovering the surrounding small towns and especially the marvelous local cuisine. We look forward to coming back in the near future to calm our souls when the big city stress kicks in! Thanks to Lee, Guido and Franco...Sincerely, Veronica F. Jan. 14, 2009
