The Tuscany region

Tuscany is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the world with unique golden light, rolling hills dotted with towering cypress trees and colour soaked fields of red poppies and yellow sunflowers.

The region benefits greatly from retaining a traditional work ethic. The land is still harvested to create fine olive oil and world famous wines, including the Brunello. The food of Tuscany is also unique with wild boar and porcino mushrooms amongst the wide range of delicacies on offer.

Rainfall peaks during from December to March with tropical Spring and Autumn's and hot steamy summers.

Finally, Tuscany is most well known for some of the most stunning cultural sites in the world. The medievel cities of Florence, Siena, Monteriggioni, Arezzo, San Gimignano and Pisa are the most well known but every little village has history, views and scenery that take the breath away.

Siena / Civitella Marittima area

Siena is most well known for the Palio; a bare-back horse race which takes place twice a year around the Piazzo del Campo. This historic event involves 11 horses charging around a tight circuit three times in pursuit of the prestigious first prize. Thousands of visitors cram the Piazza to witness the drama and pagentry.

Civitella Marittima is a small village of 500 located 30 minutes equidistant between Grosseto and Siena. The Grosseto sand beaches and the tree-lined ski slopes of Monte Amiata are a 40 minute drive.

Civitella Marittima itself is a medieval village offering the basic amenities. However, a wonderful restaurant offers visitors well priced, superb food cooked by the owner and previous Savoy chef - Alessandro Prospero.

Locally there are lovely walks, great bike trails and horse-riding. The nearest golf course is a 45 minute drive.
