Home description
Borgo La Chiusa is part of an ancient convent just outside the walls of Siena, offering guests wonderful views, peaceful environment and two deliciously restored apartments. Legnaia, whose name means woodshed, was converted from the original woodshed of Borgo La Chiusa. The apartment sits on the right corner of the property and is accessed from a welcoming terraced patio at the front of the house. The large arched glass doors lead you right into the large open living area, with lounge, fireplace and fully equipped kitchen. The large lounge is also equipped with a double sofa bed to accommodate up to 6 people in total. The back of the house hosts a double and a twin bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. The front terrace is equipped with table, chairs, loungers, BBQ and umbrellas. The outside offers a well kept garden, a lovely patio with table, chairs and BBQ for outside eating and relaxing. An above ground swimming pool, shared with one other apartment in the Borgo, sits in a discretely located area at the front of the house. The house is perfeclty located to enjoy Siena, its Palio, for relaxing by the pool, for touring the whole of Tuscany, being Siena so central. Ideal base for taking language classes, too.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is the most famous and visited region of Italy thanks to its wonderful art cities - Florence, Siena, Pisa, Volterra, S. Gimignano to name just a few; its wine - Chianti, Brunello, Sassicaia, Montepulciano; its food - Florentine steak, the hearty soups, the wild boar stews, the wonderful fish soups; for its natural settings - the wonderful Tyrrhenian coast, the Maremma, the Crete Senesi, the Appenine and certainly for the fun loving character of the Tuscan people. The weather is gorgeous between May and October, July and August being the hottest months (38°) and May and September the greenest and lushest. Last week of July and mid August Siena hosts the famous Palio, an experience worth living. Every village of Tuscany has paesant feasts throughout the summer and autumn. There are plenty of activities one can do whilst here.
Siena / Sovicille area
Siena, well known for its Palio and beautiful black and white striped Duomo, is a great place to consider for your next vacation. The area was first settled by the Etruscans more than two millenia ago and sacked by the Gauls of present day France, only to be retaken by the Romans around 70 A.D. where it was named “Saena Julia” and has remained a major town in the region ever since.
Siena is truly a medieval town. In the city centre, traffic is kept to mainly foot traffic, the buildings are all kept in the same style and new buildings have to be designed similarly so there is no garish modern buildings to mar the historic facades of the city. During the Palio, the city is transported back in time and many of the citizens come out in medieval costume and parade through the streets during the events leading up to and including the race itself. Banners are waved for each section of the city, as they cheer for their horse and rider, all confined within the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo that has been lined with dirt to form the racetrack. If you are lucky enough to find a rental during one of the two Palio’s each year you will be treated to experience you will not soon forget. During the rest of the year, there is still plenty to see, do, eat and enjoy in and around Siena. It is centrally located to many smaller Tuscan hill towns that are well-known destinations, such as Montepulciano or Montalcino (both of which should be visited by any wine lover).
