The Tuscany region

Tuscany takes its name from the ancient Etruscan people who lived in the area even before the Romans. Tuscany is also the cradle of the Italian language with writers such as Dante Boccaccio and Petrarch all born and active in this region before it provided the main thrust of the cultural and artistic outburst known as Renaissance which was possible in part because of the economic power based commerce and banking in cities such as Florence, Siena, Lucca and Pisa to mention the major ones. This region has given birth to Leonardo, Michelangelo, Masacccio, Giotto, Duccio, Piero della Francesca and numerous other artists all of whom have left us with great many treasures. Not surprising therefore if so many wish to visit this region.

Siena / Radicondoli area

Radicondoli and nearby Belforte are medieval unspoilt castellated villages resembling districts of nearby Siena which is a must visit for anyone interested in its historical treasures, such as the unique Piazza del Campo at its best as twilight falls, the Duomo, the Baptistry, to mention but a few. Florence is one hour's drive away and needs no intoduction. San Gimignano, Volterra, Massa Marittima may be less known but each is exquisite in its own way and rich in historic landmarks from Etruscan, Roman, medieval and Renaissance times. Hidden in the sorrounding landscape are hamlets, villages and small towns which can reveal a true picture of the Tuscan way of life. Radicondoli is also just one hour's drive away from the Etruscan coast which can be visited not just for historical interest but to lie in the sun. Another available treat of this area are many and various hot spas most of them open all the year round. This is therefore an area to be visited at any time of the year, even in winter, especially as the apartment has the benefit of full cetral heating and a log fire.

The property has been entirely and carefully renovated and fitted with all modern comforts while retaining its traditional Tuscan character includng log fire, wooden beam ceilings. The double bedrrom has an en suite shower room and there is a separate bathroom. The second bedroom can either sleeep one or two in separate single beds or alternatively be set up with a double bed as required.

The main feaure of the apartment is its sense of space with high ceilings and light entering from the many windows on both sides. From one you have vies of life in the main street from the souther side you see the rooftops of the village and the many orchards within the walls and beyond a 270° panorama with hills and valleys for many mles around.

The apartment was designed and furnished as the owner's first home in Italy, they now live at ground floor level where they can be found to give you the benefit of their experience and knowledge of the area and Tuscany in general to aid you make the most of your holiday.
