Home description
Fioraia, is over 200 years old but it could be more than 300. Nobody knows for certain. The house has been beautifully restored by local craftsmen using traditional Tuscan materials and retaining many of the original features. Outside, there is a large terrace, shaded by vines, which looks out over the swimming pool which is for the exclusive use of guests. It is a tranquil, get-away-from-it-all, rural setting 3km from the unspoilt medieval hilltop village of Pari.

The Tuscany region
Visitors to Tuscany are spoilt for choice. Incredible scenery, beautiful cities, towns and villages, art and culture in abundance and food and drink to die for. Pari and Fioraia are within easy reach of all the great centres - 30km from Siena and the Crete and 40km from Grosseto and the Maremma. San Gimignano, Volterra 45 mins, Florence, 1 hr, Arezzo 1.5 hr, Bologna, Perugia, Pisa, Lucca 2 hr, Rome 2.5 hr and many other fascinating places going back to Etruscan times.
Siena / Civitella Marittima area
Hot and cold running water. Just down the road from the village is Bagno di Petriolo. This is an old Roman spa where you can unwind in pools fed by the hot springs and follow with a dip in the rather cooler river. If your aches and pains need special treatment there is a modern complex where you can indulge in everything from a remedial mud bath to a relaxing massage just as they did in Roman times. For those who like to relax by the sea, there are miles of quiet sandy beaches about 45 mins away as well as bustling fishing villages and larger resorts. Food and drink. There are two shops in Pari, one for food the other for everything else; a friendly bar in the village square with a restaurant; a small Locanda with rooms and a restaurant with a Food Guide recommendation for serving fine typical homemade Tuscan food. A must. There is also a very popular Pizzeria in the nearby hamlet of Lecce. Down the valley are the vineyards of Montalcino that produce the world renowned Brunello and Vino Nobile. The local DOC is Montecucco. You will be able to get good reds from the Capanacce vineyard about 3km from the house into the campagna. On the wild side. There are many animals to look out for, especially at night: wild boar, deer, porcupine, hares and foxes; little owls, hoopoes, bee eaters, falcons, swallows and swifts and many others. During spring/early summer the display of wild flowers from fields of poppies to tiny orchids can be breathtaking. If you enjoy walking, there are many different paths to follow through the beautiful countryside. There is a modern tennis court in the village and horses can be found at Casa Bianca and Il Santo.
