The West Country region
East Devon features a beautiful coast line with striking red cliffs and a mix of pebble and sandy beaches. The coastline stretching to the East of Sidmouth is known as the Jurassic coast and many significant fossils have been found here. Modern visitors can see fossils embedded in the rocks at Lyme Regis and keen eyed fossil hunters can take home their own finds from Lyme Regis and Charmouth beaches.
The area around Sidmouth is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Inland are pretty west country villages tucked in amongst the rolling Devon hills and ancient woodlands.
Sidmouth has a long pebble beach with sand and rock pools at low tide. The esplanade stretches the length of the main part of the beach.
East Devon is ideal for walkers - the South West Coastal Path passes through it offering breathtaking cliff top walks. Inland there are miles of public footpaths exploring river valleys, woodlands and marshes and within an hour's drive of Sidmouth is the wild natural beauty of the Dartmoor national park.

We're glad to hear that our guests felt at home at the cottage and found it a cosy and relaxing winter retreat. Sidmouth esplanade is one of our favourite English places, whatever the weather, and we don't need much excuse to seek shelter in one of the local pubs or cafes if it gets a bit blustery. The Clock Tower café, perched on the cliff overlooking the beach, is particularly welcoming on a stormy day and well worth the climb.

We really appreciate this reviewer's kind comments. The walk into Sidmouth along the riverside Byes is one of our favourites at any time of the year and it's great to hear that our guests enjoy it too.

We stay at the cottage throughout the year ourselves so it's important to us that it's cosy and homely in the winter and it's always great to hear that our guests feel at home there too. We love the local cinema – it's a great option for a rainy afternoon. We are looking forward to welcoming these guests back for a return visit soon.

"Truly amazing cottage, great location, fab holiday!"
The cottage is beautiful throughout with lovely woodburner, great dining kitchen, comfortable sofas and beds. Spotlessly clean with a welcome pack on arrival, which was a real treat! The owner (Jo) was really helpful/friendly and accommodated our request for a short Thurs - Sun stay.
Location brilliant, with lovely river walk at bottom of the road down to town/seafront (approx 15 mins) and Spar just over the road.
Really close to Donkey Sanctuary and Bicton Park (both within 15 mins by car). good sized Waitrose store about 5 mins drive too if you need a bigger shop.
All in all, wonderful short break!
