The Mediterranean Coast region

.The south coast of turkey where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean Sea offers a rare and unique opportunity to any visitor. The clear blue waters and long sunlit days of the med give endless opportunities for water sports both and below water. If you prefer more leisurely pursuits boats take you dolphin and turtle watching, or into the estuaries of rivers to view spectacular waterfalls and to see fisherman plying their trade. The coastline dotted with lovely beaches sheltering attractive beach bars. For the more adventurous and a short car ride away there are beaches where you can leave the hustle and bustle behind, take a picnic and enjoy utter peace and quiet and maybe the odd tortoise. A few minutes from the beaches are the local towns, these range from the excitement of Antalya and Alanya to the quieter resorts like Side. Whichever town you choose you will always be aware that you are in Turkey, and will be made to feel welcome as soon as you arrive. Although the places are very different, the people remain the same and are truly glad to have you there. All places have a blend of modernity and antiquity that work in harmony. For younger people there are plenty of bars and clubs after dark and for families there are restaurants that offer both good food and entertainment. Children of any age are welcomed wherever you go. For anyone interested in history there are some fantastic places along the coast. You can take in a concert at a Roman Amphitheatre or spend a day wandering amongst Byzantine ruins. The museum at Antalya houses a collection of artefacts from the length of the coast. For the shopaholics there are regular market days along the coast and a plethora of jewellery and carpet centres both within the town and the surrounding areas. Even day to day groceries can be picked up just around the corner at the little stores which are found everywhere. The backdrop for this wonderful coastline is the Taurus Mountains. These mountains are home to spectacular scenery, beautiful lakes and great restaurants. There are several national parks where you will find people catching and barbequing trout in the crystal clear rivers. The mountains are not only spectacular on their own but are a gateway into the Anatolian Plains of Turkey.

Side area

Side (pronounced 'see day') is situated on the Mediterranean coast approximately 75 kilometers from one of Turkey 's largest cities' Antalya . This unique seaside resort lies on a small, flat peninsula which is 300 meters wide and 800 meters long and is just packed to the brim with archaeological wonders and surrounded on both sides by the deep, blue water of the Med. At certain points along the main street that runs through the centre and down to the quaint fishing harbour, you can look between the buildings and streets and see the sea on either sides.
Side was once an important commercial town. With its large merchant fleet it traded with the countries of the eastern and western Mediterranean and served as a port for many parts of inner Turkey .

Whilst Side has become extremely popular with European and Turkish holidaymakers alike, it has managed to retain its ‘quaintness’ and authenticity. Due to its abundance of archaeological treasures, all the architecture in the old part of Side is of a certain style – pretty, two – storey stone buildings with varnished, wooden balconies all along the labyrinth of narrow, winding alleyways.

Side has just everything you could want. For the culture – vulture there is obviously a treasure chest of ancient history all around which includes: The Amphitheatre dating back to Hellenistic period and is one of the largest (after Aspendos) in Turkey seating approximately 15,000 people; The Roman Temples of Apollo and Artemis; The City Gates; Aqua ducts and Museum. One of the most enjoyable experiences is walking through these ruins at night when all are illuminated.

During summer time no motor trafficing is allowed downtown and you need to walk about 1 km to reach to sea. The best fish restaurants in the area.
Within the local area, there are a number of high class restaurants, many offering take out food, if you require it. There are children friendly bars within a couple of minutes walk, and also supermarkets for those everyday and essential items.
