Home description
Built in 1840, Yews Barn was converted in 2003 by an award winning builder. Whilst retaining its original characters like the exposed wooden beams, it has all the modern facilities expected to a high standard. Such as a four poster bed, spa bath, central heating, TV/DVD, ample private parking and large patio in walled courtyard, iron gas stove and a fully equipped modern kitchen.
Honeymoons, anniversaries, touring/walking or just a 'getaway' break - whatever the reason we provide a warm, friendly service helping you make the most of your stay. Complimentary wine and flowers are provided.
The idyllic peaceful hillside location (no neighbours!) provides a perfect quiet retreat with walks and some of the best viewpoints in Shropshire literally a few minutes walk away. It is a great touring base for the rest of Shropshire with its central location in the county, just off the A5/A49 and 5 minutes drive from historic Shrewsbury.

The Heart of England / Peak District / Shropshire region
Centrally placed in Shropshire, just off the A49/A5 makes Yews Barn an ideal touring base for this picturesque county. It is just a 5 minute drive from the medieval market town of Shrewsbury, the heart of the county and birthplace of Charles Darwin. Shrewsbury noted for its timber framed black and white buildings, shops, restaurants and beautiful gardens hosts many events throughout the year including the Shrewsbury Flower Show in the summer.
To the north is Ellesmere with its meres rich waterfowl. Also there is the mystical Hawkestone Park with its follies and caves.
To the east is Ironbridge Gorge, a World Heritage site and birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Nearby are the remains of the Roman city of Wroxeter, and Wroxeter Vineyard
To the south is Ludlow, renowned for its castle and Michelin star restaurants. Also there is the old spa town of Curch Stretton under the Long Mynd and Stretton Hills, known as 'Little Switzerland' in Victorian times.
To the west is Oswestry with its ancient hill fort. Then on into mid Wales with the beautiful Powis Castle nearby

Yews Barn is adjacent to Lyth Hill Country Park with woodland walks and view points of the South Shropshire Hills.
Shrewsbury Golf Course at Condover and Arscott Golf Course are both within 5 to 10 minutes drive. (www.arscottgolfclub.co.uk and shrewsburygolfclub.co.uk) One of the highest golf courses in the UK and the oldest in Shropshire is at Church Stretton, a 20 mins drive.(www.churchstrettongolfclub.co.uk) All have 18 hole courses in great locations
Great places for walking are at the Long Mynd - a good place to start is at Cardingmill Valley (National Trust) at Church Stretton. Other places for walking are the Stiper Stones and Wenlock Edge (great fossil country) www.shropshirehills.info
Places to visit include: Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, nr Church Stretton the beautiful Wenlock Priory, Much Wenlock Stokesay Castle (one of the best preserved 13th century fortified manor houses in the UK ), nr Ludlow Iron Bridge set in the stuning Severn Gorge - Blist Hill working museum nearby is highly recommended Wroxeter Vine yard, set near the remains of the old Roman city Bridgenorth with its furnicular railway and leaning castle keep Clun with its 14th Century pack horse bridge and castle was described by Houseman as 'the quietest place under the sun'
