The Heart of England / Peak District / Shropshire region

Centrally placed in Shropshire, just off the A49/A5 makes Yews Barn an ideal touring base for this picturesque county. It is just a 5 minute drive from the medieval market town of Shrewsbury, the heart of the county and birthplace of Charles Darwin. Shrewsbury noted for its timber framed black and white buildings, shops, restaurants and beautiful gardens hosts many events throughout the year including the Shrewsbury Flower Show in the summer.

To the north is Ellesmere with its meres rich waterfowl. Also there is the mystical Hawkestone Park with its follies and caves.

To the east is Ironbridge Gorge, a World Heritage site and birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Nearby are the remains of the Roman city of Wroxeter, and Wroxeter Vineyard

To the south is Ludlow, renowned for its castle and Michelin star restaurants. Also there is the old spa town of Curch Stretton under the Long Mynd and Stretton Hills, known as 'Little Switzerland' in Victorian times.

To the west is Oswestry with its ancient hill fort. Then on into mid Wales with the beautiful Powis Castle nearby
