The Isle of Arran region
Isle of Arran is known as 'Scotland in miniature' because of the contrast between the rugged, craggy, granite hills in the north of the island and the lush green farmlands in the south. Arran has something for everyone from unspoilt beaches, beautiful scenery and wonderful wildlife. Spot the golden eagles, seals, dolphins, otters, red squirrels and red deer to name but a few. Visit historical castles and iron age forts. Try some of the 7 golf courses or one of the tennis courts or bowling greens dotted around the island.
It is a walker's paradise whether along by the shore, through the glens or up in the hills. There are also adventurous pursuits such as rib-riding, quad biking, pony trekking and rock climbing.
The famous 12-hole Shiskine golf course designed by James Braid is at the other end of the village along with a tennis court and bowling green. There is a long sandy beach below the golf course perfect for 'sand pies' or just to play on the beach with the kids. Explore the cave where Robert the Bruce is supposed to have seen the spider. On wet weather days, have a swim in the local hotel's heated indoor swimming pool, or play a game of squash or snooker. An ideal place for families.
