LAHARANDOTA - Artists' Studio
from £49 /night help
Barn | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 4
About the home
Laharandota has been thoughtfully restored from an existing farm complex, comprising a detached cottage, stone outbuilding with utilities, an old stone loft/barn (The Studio) and a green house, all enjoying spectacular views over Dunmanus Bay and the West Cork countryside. Many original features have been retained to create a unique and peaceful atmosphere which compliments the surrounding land and sea. This beautiful detached cottage and barn are nestled on the hillside, surrounded by a large, private garden with wonderful sea views.
Inside the Cottage there are three bedrooms (a double, twin and a single), downstairs loo, family bathroom, en suite shower room, open-plan kitchen/living room, study with sofa bed and sun room with sea views.
The Studio is a separate self-contained unit next to the Cottage. Inside there is a kitchen lounge area with sun room attached with sea views. The sun room has its own en suite shower room and iron day bed with trundle to form a king or twin bedroom. Upstairs is a king bedroom with sea views and en-suite shower room.
** RECOMMENDED IN ALASTAIR SAWDAY'S IRELAND GUIDE 2013 **
"Now how many Irish cottages come with an outdoor pool? Next to the road but shielded by hedges, it even has sea views! You are at the tip of the strikingly beautiful Sheep's Head peninsula, a paradise for walkers, and we couldn't better poet Seamus Heaney's description: 'Things found clean on their own shapes; water and ground in their extremity.' Laharandota was the house of an artist for many years; it still shows. Everything inside is in the best possible taste and breathes a generous spirit: a wonderful kitchen with big Rayburn stove, art, objets and a fabulous hamper, a claw-foot bath, a glasswalled sun room, nooks, crannies and a rustic fireplace that roars in winter. Next door's studio, often rented to the same party, provides comforts on a reduced scale, but the light, the art, the sea views are the same. Hike a part of the Sheep's Head Way: 'the best walk in Ireland' says Country Walking magazine. Head for the lighthouse, look out for choughs and peregrines. Shops and restaurants are a short drive away, lovely Bantry Town and sandy Barleycove beach are not much further. Inspirational."

The Province of Munster region
A finger of land 25 miles long and no wider than four miles, the Sheep's Head Peninsula (known locally as Muntervary or Rinn Mhuintir Bháire in Irish), is set between the blue water bays of Bantry and Dunmanus: a visually striking part of the West Cork coastline. From the stony heights of Seefin Mountain to rolling pastures and sea cliffs, the peninsula offers great land and seascapes. Laharandota is just 2 miles from the southern end, where the Sheep's Head Lighthouse clings to its jagged tip, 400 feet above the surf. Take a moment to soak in the balmy (yes, balmy!) breezes: the Gulf Stream nips Ireland along this coast, explaining the presence of palm trees in the cottage's garden as in many others.
Stroll down the lane from the cottage directly on to The Sheep's Head Way, one of Ireland's 31 Waymarked Ways (marked trails). The peninsula's natural wild beauty makes its 55 mile trail stand out from others and offers an exciting challenge for all keen walkers. If, however, you do not fancy yourself as a 'wild rover', there's always riding, cycling, sailing, kayaking, diving, golf, cookery classes or just a relaxing afternoon taking in the fabulous Cork countryside and sea views!
Sheeps Head Peninsula
Laharandota is located on the southern side of the Sheep's Head Peninsula, about 4 miles south west of the village of Kilcrohane and 15 miles from the bustling market town of Bantry, West Cork. The propoerty is ideally located for touring the West Cork area, for walking, cycling or sailing with it's many walking routes, scenic drives, coves and bays. West Cork attractions include Garinish Island and Glengariff, the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head, as well as the town of Bantry, with its many shops, great restaurants, bars and cinema. The area is also well known for its raw natural beauty, attracting walkers, artists and anyone with a love for the outdoors to the area. Within a short drive from the property is the village of Kilcrohane, with its quay and coves for bathing, two pubs, shop and local church as well as the Sheep's Head Lighthouse and Way, which passes directly behind and in front of the cottage's gardens.

"A Little Haven"
Ideal base for both the Sheep's Head and Bera Peninsula. We stayed in the cottage which we found to be warm and comfortable thanks to the Rayburn. An added bonus was the studio next door; we … More
