Ever considered a narrow boat holiday with its tranquil way of life but then thought 'it's too difficult for me'. Well here's the chance to have that holiday boating without the stress. Planet Narrow boats have a Skipper who will be on hand to carry out all the duties involved in boat handling or to simply assist and guide you in the correct ways of helmsman-ship.

The boat is not based at a marina and so can be on any section of the canal network. To make this simple for you we can provide a taxi from your home to the boat and back home again after the holiday is over. The first job on arrival at the boat (after a cup of tea) is to plan the route for the time aboard. You decide where to go from the starting point, with help from the skipper. The plan will then be followed, with occasional detours to watering holes along route, with the skipper on hand to steer, work locks, fasten mooring ropes or whatever is required to accomplish the journey safely.

Each evening after the days journey is complete, the skipper will vacate the boat, returning the next day to continue helping you on your journey. You have the boat to yourself for each night. You can do as much or as little as you want during the journey and be assured that on those bad days when the English weather does it's worst, that you can be inside enjoying the warmth of the centrally heated, modern appointed vessel and the skipper will be ensuring that your journey is accomplished safely and securely. On the majority of days when you are out on the deck you can steer, work locks, swing-bridges or walk the towpaths to work up an appetite for a meal at the canal-side hostelry or prepared by you in the modern galley (or even the barbecue).

The Heart of England/Peak District

The canal system runs throughout England and Wales. Mainly constructed to connect London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Manchester it can be called the route to "back door Britain". These transport highways were developed in the 17th century during the industrial revolution but have now become rural routes for spectacular holidays.

Shardlow

See the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution side by side with ultra modern developments and spectacular rural vista all within a days journey of Britain's Canal System. Crossing the fantastic landscape between Britain's major cities at a pace that allows all the beauty to be fully appreciated.

"Brilliant birthday weekend"

Myself and 5 friends had a brilliant weekend on the mercury narrow boat, could not fault it in any way. The boat was set up perfectly, clean, tidy and very comfortable. Mick was great all weekend and … More

Thanks for your review on Holiday Lettings. I enjoyed having you all on board and am glad you enjoyed it.

On looking round the boat after everyone had left I felt pleased that you all had been able to share our passion for the canals and hope that you might have some more breaks in the future. I am confident that you'll be able to take on the 'skipper' role and get the most out of a holiday afloat. At least now you'll know what to look for in boat hire, but if you want any advice, give us a call.

Good luck and best wishes

Mick
