Home description
Dower Barn was converted in 2003 to create a superb contemporary home with state of the art kitchen, fittings and bathrooms that complement the minimalist bedrooms. The magnificent living room runs the entire length of the property and provides a fabulously spacious and attractive place in which to lounge, cook and dine.
In Spring 2007 we were awarded a maximum five star rating from "Visit Britain Self Catering Quality in Tourism".
Based in a quiet hamlet of five houses close to the Teign estuary, the barn is only two miles from the town of Newton Abbot and four miles from the beaches of Teignmouth, Shaldon and Torquay.

The West Country / Devon region
Whether you enjoy walking on the moors or hiking along the South West coast path, swimming and building sand castles, playing golf or treating yourself to a fine painting, a great pair of shoes, a stick of rock and a body board, there's something for you here in South Devon.
Shaldon / Lower Netherton area
We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to be in such a peaceful rural location, yet within easy reach of Dartmoor, Exeter, Totnes, Torquay, Dartmouth and Plymouth, and the wide variety of holiday attractions, leisure facilities, art galleries, pubs and restaurants they provide. There is even a Sainsburys supermarket within less than a five minute drive away and the contemporary riverside pub, Coombe Cellars, within walking distance of half a mile.
The seaside town of Teignmouth is four miles away ... its long beach and strand peppered with pretty flower beds and ice cream opportunities. There is a well designed children's playground with swings and cimbing frames and a large grassy area on which you can have a kick about or watch a good game crown green bowls.
Shaldon is a pretty village at the mouth of the Teign estuary and again is a four mile drive away ... when the tide is out you can actually walk to Shaldon along the Templar Way than runs along the bank of the river (stout walking shoes required). There you will find two beaches (one accessed by a smuggler's tunnel), a nine hole pitch and putt and a tiny zoo that specialises in marmosets.
Holiday attractions local to Dower Barn are Creally Park, Woodlands, Paignton Zoo, Britain's biggest Aquarium in Plymouth, Quay West Water Park, Babbacombe Model Village, Powderham Castle, River Link - river and coastal cruises, to name but a few!

You will approach Newton Abbot via the Penn Inn roundabout on the A380. We are a two minute drive away and will forward further details on confirmation of booking.

Further details indoors: We are situated alongside a quiet lane where there is a parking bay for two cars. A five barred gate opens onto a small grassed area in front of the property and extends round to steps leading up to the decked terrace that overlooks our orchard and is provided with garden furniture. An additional private play area is available along the lane.
An aluminium framed glass door leads into the tiled hallway from which the wooden stairs lead up to the bright and light open plan living room with polished oak floor, high pitched ceiling with exposed "A" frames, many low windows and a huge glazed end wall. The room falls naturally into different zones with two seating areas either side of the stairwell, comfortably furnised with sofas, chairs, an LCD flat screen TV with Sky Freesat package, DVD and stereo unit with CD/tape and record player. Dower Barn provides superior accommodation for six people, a fold down sofa on the first floor increasing the possible party size to eight.
The superbly modern, built-in kitchen area has black granit work surfaces, electric glass induction hob, eye level microwave French doors open to the decked area outside.
On the ground floor are carpeted bedrooms, two double rooms with 5ft beds and a twin room with 3ft beds. There are no windows in the twin room but it is well lit, having an obscured glass door leading onto a terracotta-tiled hallway that is bathed with natural light.
There is a superb family bathroom with bath, basin and WC and a further separate shower room with corner shower, basin and WC.
We are very proud of the quality of accommodation we provide and delighted that our guests over the past three years have agreed.
