The West Country region

Devon is one of the most scenic counties in England. So much to see and do from beaches to the ruggedness of the Dartmoor National Park.

If you fancy a greater variety of shops Exeter is only a 30 minute drive and Plymouth about 45 minutes. The train to Exeter runs along the coast and is a very picturesque journey. Both Newton Abbot and Exeter Racecourse are about 15 minutes away by car.

Other nearby places of interest include the Babbacombe Model Village, Kent's Cavern, Dartmouth Steam Railway, River Dart Country Park and many others

Shaldon is a fabulous village and amenities include an 18 hole approach golf course, sea and river fishing and various water sports including sailing, water skiing and surfing. There is a bowling green and from April to September the village holds a "1785-Day" every Wednesday where local craftspeople dress up in period costumes and sell their wares on the village green, with live entertainment in the early evening.

In the summer on the first Saturday in August the village holds a water carnival and in late August a 10 day long regatta.

Teignmouth is a lovely old town and just a walk out of the village and over the bridge or you can take the small passenger ferry from Shaldon beach over to Teignmouth.

A delightful cottage, small but comfortable & had everything we needed. A perfect location, a minute from the sea. Jane was very welcoming giving us local infomation on places to eat etc. I Recomend the Clipper cafe & the Clifford Arms. The cottage is a short walk to the shops,( the baker's has lovely cakes) Shaldon is a beautiful place, you feel relaxed as soon as you cross the bridge. We can't wait to return.
