"Large, lovely, comfortable, pet friendly and very well stocked!!"

We stayed at this property for four days on our way to the World Dog Show in Hungary. We got there a bit late but Sasha and Jasna were there to greet us with friendly smiles and a trip to the property wine cellar for a tasting of their home produced wine and lovely fruit liqueurs. The house is entered through a huge wall with heavy wooden doors to a two story, 200 year old courtyard which made a lovely enclosed place for the dogs to run. ( Not to mention the lemon trees and herbs available for cooking use! ) In the courtyard area was a wood fired barbecue grill and table and chairs for dining al fresco which we made good use of. Although they have kept the old charm of the house with such things as the rock walls in the dining area, the house is quite well modernized with WiFi, satellite TV, full bath and a fabulously well stocked kitchen. The kitchen had everything from a dishwasher and panini grill to a meat slicer, food mill, ricers, enough china and stainless to serve 30 people, every kitchen utensil under the sun and basics like herbs, spices, condiments etc. In the bath, there were enough towels for a small army as well as a washer, iron and ironing board and a large clothesline on the second story of the courtyard for drying. Many rental places have only the basics but this was like moving into someone's home who had just stepped out for a minute. The bedrooms were very comfortable and there was an upstairs outdoor area off the bedroom for sitting and enjoying the wonderful weather. There is a LOT to do in the area. The scenery is quite unique and the caves were nothing short of fantastic. A day spent at the Lipica Stud Farm was quite lovely..take a tour of the barns, see a performance of the art form that is man and horse and do yourself a really big favor by going on a carriage ride. Also , try not to miss the Saturday market at the capitol which is about 45 minutes away. It is a wonderful city, clean, friendly and very pretty with lots of wonderful shops and restaurants. There is also a lot of outdoor activity available such as hiking and riding and Sasha and Jasna also conduct mountain biking tours. I must admit that had we not been going to the dog show I would never have thought to go to Slovenia but now it is my favorite European country with its wonderful limestone hills, caves, glorious mountains and beautiful waterfalls and lakes. Do yourself a favor and go to this wonderful country and stay at Vila Dane. You will not be sorry!
