Boucheyrou
About the home
Stay in your very own, completely private house in France, no owners living nearby, nothing shared and over 2.5 acres of grounds surrounded by sunflowers and open fields, plus a beautiful floodlit pool for your exclusive enjoyment.
Although very private, with a 100 yard driveway, the tranquil property is not isolated.
The house has been very well restored by French artisans and is equipped to a very high standard. The high ceilings and rooms of generous proportions give the house an airy feel.
Outside there is a 30' floodlit swimming pool with roman steps which is exclusively used by our holidaymakers. A barbecue, garden furniture including sun loungers, bikes, soft tennis and boules are provided together with a full size table-tennis table in a huge attached barn. Large areas of the garden are mown regularly by our caretaker and the rest is left to encourage the wildflowers and grasses.

A charming area of south-west France, the region is full of chateaux, pleasant countryside, rural villages, authentic French restaurants and so much more to discover! The area is perfect for wine tasting as some great wines are made locally: specifically Buzet and Bergerac which remain ever popular worldwide. Many of the local chateaux offer wine tastings ('les degustations') - do visit the big chateau at Duras if you are a wine fanatic. For visits further afield you could also take a day trip to the Atlantic coast, and perhaps visit the biggest sand dune in Europe - just under an hour's drive at the Arcachon Basin. The Seyches area
Miramont which has a beautiful large lake with sandy beach, canoeing, wind surfing, fishing and tennis is 15 minutes away. There is a second lovely lake just above Duras at St. Sernin. Miramont has a lively market on Mondays which is well worth a visit. Marmande, ten minutes in the other direction, is the large local town with a very interesting market on Saturdays and others during the week. The town has two cinemas, a museum, good quality shops and restaurants. Seyches is our local village and is a short bike ride away. Here in the pretty square with its banana trees can be found one of the best family run, cheap restaurants in the area. There are also small shops, doctor, dentist, pharmacy, post office, bank, bakery and a tennis and a boules court. There is a major supermarket within 7 minutes on the way to Miramont - open lunchtimes. Do visit Duras with its famous chateau and lakes. The area is wonderful to explore with all of the Bordeaux chateau names within easy reach and excellent local wines at Duras and Tonneins. There are also many good restaurants ranging from local good food to haute cuisine, and all the usual holiday occupations available such as tennis, swimming, golf, canoeing, horse riding etc. We have compiled a file of suggestions to help you enjoy your holiday and our visitors continually add details of things they have discovered. *** FLYING LESSONS *** Looking for something a bit different? How about a flying lesson or 2? Flying lessons are also available locally - at the nearby flying club. Had a lovely relaxing 2 weeks in the French countryside. House is very rustic but extremely comfortable, clean and well equiped. If you like peace and quiet this is for you - nothing beats lying beside the private pool with a glass of wine. Stayed here 13 years ago and will not wait that long to return. From first enquiry with the owner to our arrival was very easy and professionally handled and the house and grounds were immaculately presented. Highly recommended |

My wife and I live in Australia and have stayed at Boucheyrou every year since 2006. We have every intention to stay there again, for the seventh consecutive time, in 2012. That probably indicates just how much we love this holiday home. Boucheyrou is not a gite but is the home in France of the owners and it shows. The house is beautifully appointed and has a fantastic kitchen which is a particular attraction for us as we really enjoy shopping at the local markets (Miramont on Monday, Eymet on Thursdays and Marmonde on Saturdays) and then cooking the produce of the region. Boucheyrou is set in about 2 acres of garden and is situated at the end of a private drive about 100 metres off a quiet road. It is surrounded by farmland which is either sown with wheat or sunflowers and the views over the surrounding countryside are stunning. For us the pick of these views is looking over the swimming pool and across the rolling countryside towards the church at La Chapelle. That is just so good! There are several very good restaurants within easy reach of Boucheyrou and our holiday would not be complete without a visit to the Vieux Porche in Seyches which is about 3Km from Boucheyrou. This restaurant is the archetypal rural French restaurant. It is difficult to say what we like best about Boucheyrou as there is just so much that is outstanding from the pool to the cherry and fig trees, the well furnished rooms and of course, the kitchen. Perhaps however, it is the really peaceful ambiance of Boucheyrou that we like the most. What we like least is easy to choose. Leaving Boucheyrou when the time comes to return to Australia. |

Having stayed in Boucheyrou 13 years ago it was a pleasure to return. Now featuring a very private pool it was ideal for a relaxing stay. The house is very rustic but extremely comfortable, clean and well equiped. Plenty of lovely villages and small towns around an hours radius of the house for a nice daytrip. From the early stages of booking through tp the return of the damage deposit Sue was very friendly and efficient and Ray, the caretaker, was excellent and full of good ideas of things to do. I cannot fault this property in any way and would highly recommend it for a very relaxing holiday. |
