Our rural village house has been refurbished to a high standard to give our guests a comfortable base to explore the beautiful Central Bulgarian countryside!
Two comfortable double-bedded rooms, plus one twin-bedded room, combined with two separate WC/shower/bathrooms, and a self-container attic "apartment" with an en-suite wet-room, private balcony, & air-conditioning give ample space for families or groups of friends.
The fully equipped dining kitchen (with ceramic hob, oven, toaster, kettle, dishwasher, all utensils, crockery & cutlery) allows you freedom to cater for your own tastes, and the covered outside barbeque patio lets the whole group cook and dine together at one big table on the warm summer evenings. The enclosed walled garden gives privacy, as well as the opportunity for secure parking if desired.
A separate sitting room on the ground floor gives an alternative space for relaxation.
We can also offer rooms to smaller groups or individuals on a Bed & Breakfast basis throughout the year, subject to availability.
Mountain bikes are available from us for exploring the beautiful local countryside, and the nearby picturesque Aleksander Stambolijski Reservoir!

The Gabrovo Province region
The central Bulgarian district of Veliko Turnovo isn't visited as often as the Black Sea tourist resorts, but offers the traveller a unique view of a more rural way of life, long forgotten by much of western Europe!
We're situated in the wine region of Suhindol, within easy reach of historic Veliko Turnovo, (the former medieval capital), as well as interesting mountain towns like Tryavna (famous for its wood-carving), spectacular monasteries such as the one at Dryanovo (& its caves!) as well as numerous eco-walks through valleys and gorges locally.
Within easy reach there are also several spa resorts, taking advantage of sulphurous hot-springs!
The frankly unbelievable Buzludzha Monument (massive mountain-top monument built in the late '70's) and the nearby Shipka monument are accessible by car within reasonable times, and are well worth a visit!
Our guesthouse is available and suitable for year-round use; it's cool in summer because of its thick walls (although we have air-conditioned the top attic-room) and in winter our powerful central heating keeps you cosy! Summer weather is typically Central European/Mediterranean with average summer temperatures in the upper 20's celsius (although peaks of 40 degrees are common!)
Summer sees several cultural festivals in nearby Veliko Turnovo, including the annual Folklore & music festival, which sees groups from all over the world congregate to show their own songs and dances to the town! Currently there are three music festivals in the area, from rock to dance, throughout the summer. The Bulgarian round of the World Motocross GP takes place in nearby Sevlievo in April, again with a huge international following!
The small village of Gorsko Kalugerovo lies in a wooded valley, ("gorsko" means wooded; "kalugerovo" refers to monks, or a monastery) with mainly oak forests, dramatic limestone escarpments to the north. Looking the the west, more escarpments lead the way to the 21km-long Aleksander Stambolijski reservoir, (about 5km distant) and the village of Gorsko Kosovo. The winemaking town of Suhindol is on a higher-level plateau to the north-west. The area is great for walking, cycling, off-road motorcycling and 4x4 off-road driving, as well as fishing, hunting and canoeing. Outdoor enthusiast's dream area!
The village has limited facilities, but a well-stocked village shop in the centre has the essentials, with nearby Pavlikeni (14km) and Sevlievo (24km) offering everything else you might want. Local bus services link to local towns and further afield, but the timetable's really for workers rather than recreational travel... a car's pretty much essential.
Various outdoor activites can be arranged, offroad driving tours, guided mountain-bike trails, horse-riding, even parascending!

"Great hosts, great place and wonderful food!"
Rob and Sandra are doing everything possible to make our stay enjoyable in their lovely home. We are eating here every day because the meals are so wonderful - no need to drive miles to find a decent restaurant. The nearby reservoir/lake is incredible and yesterday I was taken for a horse and cart ride around the local countryside to save my old legs from walking - great fun. Lovely part of central/northern Bulgaria.

"A dream in the country"
We’ve rented Villa Sandra last December to celebrate the New Year ’s Eve with some friends (8 persons in total). We haven’t been there before and we were delighted to find out how comfortable, fully equipped and nicely furnished house is the villa. We enjoyed a really warm welcome by our hosts Rob and Sandra and some complimentary beverage (red wine, Bulgarian rakia) and food. Bedrooms are cozy and the studio on the top floor is lovely with a nice balcony. Although it was snowing our group enjoyed spending time outside around the barbeque cooking and having fun. We had great time there and all my friends loved the house and the place. We plan to visit the villa again in summer when we can also enjoy more time outside in the garden. I’m happy to recommend Villa Sandra to everyone who is looking for a really nice place in the country. Also the villa is situated one of the most beautiful regions in Bulgaria with a lot of places for sightseeing both historical and landmarks. The nearby lake is a good place for a walk or a picnic in the summer.

"Excellence in every respect"
Having never been to Bulgaria or stayed in a b & b before we didn't know what to expect - absolutely nothing to worry about, we had a huge en-suite bedroom with a balcony, plenty of clean towels & equipment for hot drinks, we had use of a dining/sitting room downstairs where we ate & chilled. The house was spotless & Rob & Sandra went out of their way to make us feel welcome & nothing was too much trouble which was nice as my dads funeral was the day before our trip. We had only booked b & b but for a small charge Rob cooked us our evening meal & he is an excellent cook the food was delicious!!! The village was peaceful & pretty. We would highly recommend this home from home & we will be going again later on in the year
