The Andalucia / Sevilla Province region
A direct link between Europe and Africa, and the place where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean, Andalusia has been fought over by numerous cultures since the earliest times of civilization.
In Andalusia, contrasts are the norm. The diversity of the landscapes which make up the region provides an entire spectrum: from the warm Guadalquivir valley, to leafy low mountain areas, from volcanic landscapes such as the Tabernas Desert to the white peaks of Sierra Nevada.
Andalusia´s main river, the Guadalquivir,is a source of life all along its journey across Andalusian territory.
Within forty kilometres it is possible to travel from this alpine landscape to the tropical shores of the Mediterranean.
The climate of Seville is Mediterranean, with oceanic influences. The annual average temperature is 18.6 °C (65 °F), which makes this city one of the warmest in Europe.
Winters are mild: January is the coolest month, with average maximum temperatures of 15.9 °C (61 °F) and minimum of 5.2 °C (41 °F).
Summers are very warm: August is the warmest month, with average maximum temperatures of 35.5 °C (96 °F) and minimum temperatures of 19.4 °C (67 °F) and every year the temperature exceeds 40 °C (104 °F) on several occasions.
The Seville / Central Sevilla area
Seville, rich millenary heiress of different cultures that settled along the shores of the Guadalquivir River, preserves and pampers its world famous monumental architecture. At the same time it proudly and brilliantly treasures mysterious secrets that romantic authors attempted to release in mythical works such as Carmen, The Barber of Seville or Don Juan, amongst many others.
The best way to visit Seville is on foot, by walking through its streets and admiring its beauty.
Though there are many other ways to get around, especially recommended to people who don't have much time available. There are tourist buses which make stops at the most representative areas of the city, all during the course of one hour. A cruise along the Guadalquivir River allows for time to enjoy beautiful views of both shores, while admiring bridges built during different periods of history.
A typically lovely way to visit Seville is on a horse driven carriage route along restricted areas closed to automotive traffic. Other people prefer to tour the city on bike, while the most adventurous try hot air ballooning. If one prefers an in-depth historical and art account of Seville, the best way to visit the city is with a guided tour.
