The Marche/Abruzzo region

"Le Marche is a distillation of Italy" and has often been described as Italy's best kept secret. From the Adriatic Sea to the Sibillini Mountains, with its hills gently sloping towards the coast along parallel valleys, this charming region is set apart by its rare beauty - a magical rural patchwork. Mostly known for its long sandy beaches, its real treasure lies inland: there you will find medieval hill towns and villages where time has really stood still! These delightful places, yet to be discovered by mass tourism, often contain masterpieces of Renaissance art & architecture as well as preserving a traditional way of life. Particularly beautiful are the snow-capped peaks of the Sibillini Mountains situated in magnificent walking & skiing country inside the National Park.

A relaxing holiday in Le Marche offers you all the best features of Italy, its culture and way of life: beaches, mountains, history, art, local traditions & crafts, spirituality, nature, excellent regional food and wine. You can experience all these for yourself from Villa Miramonti's apartments, the ideal location for your holiday in tranquil central Le Marche, within stunning countryside between mountains & sea!

Servigliano

There are many excellent routes and circular drives for exploring the Marche region's towns and vilages from your holiday base at Villa Miramonti. The three main provincial towns - Macerata, Fermo and Ascoli Piceno – all have historical centres, piazzas, churches, museums, restaurants & markets easily explored on foot with parking easy to find. Along the coast, Porto San Giorgio, Grottamare, San Benedetto del Tronto all have lovely palm tree lined promenades and marinas. Many smaller inland towns have 'Orange Flag' quality awards from the Touring Club of Italy including Montelupone, Urbisaglia, Sarnano, Caldarola & San Ginesio. A little further away, Tolentino, San Severino, Camerino, Cingoli and Loreto may be of interest.

Servigliano, in the central province of Fermo, dates back to 29BC and was named after the Roman tribune Publius Servilius. During the 18th century, the current 'neo-classical' architecture replaced medieval buildings and the town was renamed 'Castel Clementino' in honour of Pope Clemente XIV, who approved the new geometric design. It became 'Servigliano' again in 1863. Every summer, in August, the 'Torneo of Castel Clementino' re-evokes the lost Medieval period; locals parade and feast in period costume, colourful cultural events culminate in a spectacular jousting tournament.

Villa Miramonti's two holiday apartments, in their tranquil rural setting, are just 5 minutes' drive from the elegant 'Centro Storico' which remains relatively unchanged. Three impressive portals lead into charming little squares and gardens around the elegant Piazza Roma with its small shops - butchers, grocers, general store, clothing, jewellery and antiques. There's even a traditional barber's! During the summer there is a delightful Night Market in the piazza on Mondays. With its cafe-bars, gelaterias, pizzerias and small restaurants, the town buzzes during summer evenings, market days and special events!
