Beaches: Take a picnic to Sete, Meze, Valras or some of the meds finest beaches.

Gorges: Walk, hike in some of the stunning Herault or Tarn gorge or canoe on the Herault or Orb rivers

Markets: Visit the local markets in Pezenas, Agde, Marseillan

Festivals: Summer is the time for local village festivals and in August the Feria in Beziers is in full swing (with bull-fights, optional!)

Servian

Abeilhan is a typical Herault village surrounded by vineyards and is situated halfway between the historic city of Beziers (magnificent cathedral overlooking the Canal de Midi) and the medieval town of Pezenas, full of quaint restaurants and craft shops. Pezenas also has the biggest markets in the area every Saturday morning. Marseillan (home of Noilly Prat), Meze on the lagoon, with its many oyster restaurants and Sete, the Venice of the south of France are all within easy reach. The vibrant cities of Montpellier and Nimes, with its fabulous Roman amphitheatre are both within an hour's drive. The medieval walled city of Carcasonne to the west, is a must see when in this part of France. "great property loverly old village"

Property great, Had large kitchen on ground floor leading out to patio area with garden furniture. lounge bedroom and wc on first floor and top floor two bedrooms shower with wc and washing machine. Abeilhan is a great very old French village, locals very nice and welcoming, bar, restaurant, bakery, newsagent, chemist all in the village. stayed at the same property twice, and would stay again when we next visit Abeilhan. communication with the owners was excellent.

Thanks J & J for the review. Was delighted that you stayed in our place and that you enjoyed your stay there and I know you found that the village had everything only a few minutes away - tabac (newagents),small supermarket, bakeries, cafe/bar and was a convenient base for touring all the sites, cities (Carcassonne, Beziers, Montepellier)and for the nearby beaches, gorges and mountains too. Hope to see you back in Abeilhan - the 'real' south of France very soon.
