Skiing - Serre Chevalier
Briancon in Serre Chevalier, is a great place to ski and a good starting point is from Chantemerle, which is about 10 mins from the apartment by car. Hire skis from Ski 2000 (which is adjacent to the Cable car) and leave the skis and boots there overnight. Parking at the resort (100m away from lift) and at Briancon (60m from the apartment) is free apart from July and August and it is not difficult to find parking slots.
There is a Ski Bus that connects all the 4 resorts which is free when you have a ski pass. Another bus goes around the town, stopping at the gates of the old town, collecting skiers and dropping them at the telecabine in the centre of Briancon.
A 6 day skipass also entitles you to have a days skiing in each of the adjoining resorts of Montgenevre, Alp de Huez, Les Deux Alpes so if you fancy a change from Serre Chevalier you can go elsewhere easily.
Boasting 300 days of sunshine a year, Briancon offers hiking, climbing, mountaineering, mountain-biking, hill walking and kayaking. Further details outdoors: Briançon, the highest town in Europe, is a beautiful fortress town, walled and fortified by the famous Vauban and the result is simply stunning. The town has two parts: the lower town is at the junction of the Durance and Guisane rivers, where the N84 highway passes through from Embrun/Guillestre towards Grenoble; the upper town is the walled area at the top, fortified by Vauban and includes the Fort du Chateau fortress at the peak. The apartment is in the centre of the old town, surrounded by numerous restaurants and shops.
There are many sights to see in the town, with fountains, squares, sundials, gargouille streets, etc. A gargouille is a small canal that runs down the centre of the street, one of only two towns in France with gargouilles, the other being St Martin-Vésubie in the Alpes-Maritimes. Briançon has two gargouilles running down through the fortified upper town. One runs down the central Rue Grande, also called Grande Gargouille, the street on which the apartment is located. The second runs down Rue Mercerie, also called Petite Gargouille.

Guestbook for 53 Grande Rue
- just a note to say how much we enjoyed staying in your lovely apartment. We had a super holiday and it was nice that the less enthusiastic skiers (me) could just enjoy relaxing in the apartment or exploring the old town.
"We had a great stay in your apartment… it was, in one word, a marvelous apartment, and definitely worth recommending to our friends. If it works out, I would love to come back next year – so we’ll surely get in touch with you then…" Jan 2008
" We had a fantastic time thanks –the advice re the Ski 2000 shop was particularly beneficial. It was so easy to ski out and in". Feb 2008
"The apartment was great – lots of room and perfectly situated for us. We went to a restaurant called Le Rustique (twice)– we’d recommend this to anyone – the service was fantastic. It’s also a very kid friendly place and it’s only two minutes walk from the apartment." Feb 2008
"All in all it was one of the best skiing holidays I’ve ever had – and the kids complained all the way back that they wanted to stay another week. When do you start taking bookings for 2009?" Feb 2008
"We have just arrived home after a super break in Briancon. We all had a wonderful time and thought both your apartment and the whole area lovely. The snow was great and we are now being chased down black runs by the kids !!!!" March 2008
"We were so impressed that we were thinking that if it was possible we might like to return in the summer." March 2008
