About the home

Snowgums is situated in a quiet village on the edge of Briancon. Wonderful group or family accomodation in beautiful old farmhouse, right in the heart of Serre Chevalier! 300 days of sunshine a year! 2 minutes from Chantemerle cablecar and the pistes. 10 minutes to thermal spa baths with sauna, hamam, flotation tank, indoor/outdoor pools etc. Easy access to all mountain sports, skiing, boarding, cycling, mountain biking, hiking, rafting, canoeing and lots more! In a village on the edge of Briancon, UNESCO world heritage listed fortified old town, with all amenities, just 5 minutes away. Apartments are very spacious, and there's an excellent ski room and a great games cupboard for all ages. All linen provided, including feather pillows and duvets. Free local bus takes you direct to Chantemerle cable car and the pistes. Self-catering accomodation but optional fine in-house evening meals by local chef Nathalie may be pre-ordered for one or as many days as you choose, from 25 euros per head per meal for four courses plus wine.

Large walled garden with swings, Wendy/ cubby house, BBQ, paddling pool, sandpit and lots of room for children to run around in. In front of the house is a large field which is great for walking dogs down to the river, and for sledging in winter. Thermal baths/ spa is 10 minutes drive and excellent public swimming pool 5 minutes away. Also lakes with beaches for children 5 minutes away.

300 days of sunshine a year, a lesser known gem and less expensive than the savoire, the Hautes-Alpes has all you need for a wonderful holiday - relaxing, cultural, hiking, kayaking, climbing, skiing, adventure holiday or just relaxing. 15 minutes from the Italian border so you can enjoy the Italian mountains too. Lots to do in a wonderful climate where the locals are 'more friendly than in other ski areas in France'.

The Serre Chevalier / Briancon area

Every visit should include seeing the UNESCO World Heritage Listed old town of Briancon, and the thermal baths/spa at Monetier les Bains. Beyond that you have national parks, mountains, rivers, villages, lakes and so much within half an hour of Snowgums. This area is a well-kept secret, and you will be delighted with what you find here!

“A brilliant find” We'd been to Serre Chevalier before and really liked it, but this time we managed to stay for a bit longer. Perhaps because it is slightly further away from the main airports in the area, it's managed to retain a bit more of its local charm. The apartment was great. We needed to do a bit of work while we were away, and there was adequate wifi and plenty of table space to set up our laptops. Halfway through the week a couple of friends joined us and there was certainly plenty of space for the four of us. The kitchen was well equipped and we felt completely at home in the place. We are snowboarders and had a brilliant time on the slopes - there were no queues, the sno-park is a lot of fun, and there are lots of places to go off-piste. The owner was really friendly and made us feel very welcome.

“Friendly family home in beautiful surroundings” The property is full of character with a large garden and plenty of toys if you have children. It's in a quiet rural setting, so don't expect local services right on your doorstep, but with good access to other towns and villages by bus you won't have any difficulty getting what you need. The owner has a wealth of knowledge about possible trips to mountains, thermal pools and the beautiful old town of Briancon. The views to the mountains are spectacular and the skiing is really extensive in winter, with cross country skiing and ski touring available if you get bored with miles of pistes.

“You either get it or you dont” If you are looking for bland, characterless accomodation, then Snowgums is not for you. The floors maybe uneven but round every corner there is something new to look at. In the apartment I stayed in this time, you can sit in the thickness of the walls in a window seat with the sunlight falling gently onto the book you are reading. It is beautifully quiet but easy for everyone to get to the ski slopes, as well as lovely Briancon, on buses. This was my 4th visit and I still found new walks by the river, & cafes I had not been to. Great for all ages.

“Snowgums - great place to stay for winter alpine fun.” Very warm and welcoming owner of the properties - very helpful pre-visit information available and lots of good local knowledge. The rooms have lots of character, with everything you need, and there is a rustic charm about the place. Well located - around 5 - 10 min to ski lifts and shopping. Serre Chevalier is not overly developed and the combination of great range of skiing with often deserted pistes and rarity of queues make it a bit of a find! We plan to come back again.

“Away-from-it-all, amazing scenery, lots to do and a warm welcome” My family of four had a great week here. Plenty to do (more than we expected). Particularly enjoyed the glacier; walk and picnic up the valley; wandering round the old town and the lovely open/covered swimming pool. Holiday a hit with our pre teen girls. Accomodation is lovely, old surroundings but all mod cons. Loved the bright touches to soft furnishings. Warm welcome and helpful tips from Pippa and Becky.

“Best Holiday Location in the World!” A friend and I, both single mums with toddlers, stayed at Snowgums during the summer holidays. The stay enirely exceeded our expectations in terms of quality, location, friendliness, entertainment, enjoyment, comfort and scenery. A holiday I will never forget. My daughter, three at the time we stayed still talks often about Snowgums!

“Cosy, tasteful, kid friendly, thoughtful, charming, personal; containing the rare and unmeasurable touch of joy.” This feels like a "hidden valley," do not be fazed. You are an independant traveller, looking for something unique and special, personally prepared with attention to detail and the small elegances, not to be found in cookie cutter companies. Impossible to be disappointed coming here.

“Fabulously charming, authentic and friendly...and don't forget the snow!” We loved our stay here so much we are already planning a return trip. Pippa and her daughter Becky were welcoming and made us feel at home the minute we arrived. Becky even brought chewy bones for our dogs and I am sure they would have been happy to have spent more time out in the snow with Becky's dog Chine had we not been so busy exploring the local area and trying out the Ski Nordique in the nearby Vallée de Clarée. The accommodation is charming, clean, well equiped and warm despite the minus temperatures outside. Don't miss out on a visit the the thermal baths at Montier les Bains swimming outside at night in the snow is amazing and an experience never to forget!

“Lovely apartments with lots of character and great value.” Pippa has done a fabulous job of converting this old farmhouse into three beautiful apartments which retain their rustic charm. It is in a great location on the bus route between the beautiful historic town of Briancon and the Chantermerle ski centre serving the extensive Ser Chevalier ski area. Pippa has been a delightful host, warm, friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay so much that we plan to return again in March and possibly also in the summer with friends since there is so much to do in the valley both in summer and winter.
