About this location

The Lazio region

Sermoneta sits atop a foothill of the Lepino Mountain Range parallel to the ancient Pontine marshes, and with views of the glorious Mediterranean sea, a short drive away. A half hour’s train ride from Rome, or an hour and a half by car along the ancient Appian Way; a trip to Sermoneta is a pleasure in itself. Great beaches and beach resorts only 20 minutes away are an added bonus.

The town has changed little since its medieval conception, and the enormous fortress of Caetani Castle looms over and dominants the town and the valley below. The castle is now run by the Roffredo Caetani Foundation, which was created by Lelia Caetani in honour of her illustrious family. Today, the castle hosts courses, seminars, and prestigious concerts. In July, there are concerts in the castle by well-known contemporary musicians and orchestras.

Open air restaurants and bars make for easy summer living. Winters in cosy interiors are an equal delight.

The villages offers year around Festas, and in particular in the month of May, there are concerts every weekend, as well as art exhibits, painting classes for children and much more.

Open air restaurants and bars make for easy summer living. Winters in cosy interiors are an equal delight.

There is a medieval Festa of the Madonna di Vittoria in October, a Polenta festival in January, and other magical events all year long.

Don't miss the famed Gardens of Ninfa, a WWF site, the Sabaudia beach, or historic Terracina, or charming San Felice Circeo.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your time in Sermoneta. It is indeed a special place, as there are few 800 year old towns that are both so well maintained, offer the sense of such an historic past, while having a vibrant community, with a fine life-style and a many cultural events. Sermoneta also has a micro-climate with mild year around weather which offers great a spring or fall holiday as well as delightful summers. We hope to see you back soon.

Thank you for writing. We are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday and almost everything about the house and beautiful Sermoneta. We are sorry that you did not enjoy the custom wool padded mattress, much appreciated in France and Italy, since they cushion and conform to each sleeper. Almost all of our other Guests have appreciated it, as I do. I should add that the other mattresses in the house are conventional and quite firm, so there is a choice. All best wishes.

"Helt fantastiskt!"

//Andreas med familj.

We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your time in Sermoneta, and appreciated the Village as well as the house. We are delighted that you want to come. You were delightful guests to meet and know.

"Beautiful place in magical village"

What a gorgeous place Sermoneta is. I am not sure I would have ever visited that region of Italy without finding your place on the website. There were so many wonderful surprises at every turn, and we loved that it was not too crowded. We were very happy to be tucked in at the beautiful and charming Domus Doull, where we spent one full day lazing around the pool, and countless hours reading, napping and soaking it all up. While we were very happy there, we ventured out a little, too. The lunch I had in San Felice Circeo was a highlight. Our trip to Sperlonga was glorious, and it is where we learned about Lucano --- a lesson we enjoyed very much! Thanks to your directions, the drive back to Rome on the Via Appia resulted in more great views and food at Lake Albano.

We really could not have asked for a more beautiful place or a more magical village to visit. Thanks so much.

It was truly a pleasure to share our wonderful part of Italy with someone so interested in discovering its many treasures. We hope that one day Sermoneta will lure you back.
