Domus Doull
About the home
Near Rome, a character home in a hilltop town with private pool and garden is a rare and special treat. This house dates back to 12th century, but is now fully modernized. It is spacious and elegant, and has a living room/dining room, a fully-equipped kitchen, and two bedrooms, each with modern baths. Bedrooms offer Peignoirs and fine soaps. Its shady garden is deliciously scented by the blossoms of ancient orange and lemon trees. Enjoy cooking Italian style in the garden’s own pizza oven and outdoor grill, then settle in and enjoy your meal at the stone outdoor table. Sun bathing by the pool, swimming, or lying in the hammock , are also recommended!
An unforgettable experience in the mild climate of this historic town and area, only twenty minutes from great beaches, and a half hour train ride from Rome, awaits you. The owners, who formerly owned an acclaimed Chateau-hotel in France, have brought with them a certain flare and experience as well as fine French antiques.

The Lazio region

Sermoneta sits atop a foothill of the Lepino Mountain Range parallel to the ancient Pontine marshes, and with views of the glorious Mediterranean sea, a short drive away. A half hour’s train ride from Rome, or an hour and a half by car along the ancient Appian Way; a trip to Sermoneta is a pleasure in itself. Great beaches and beach resorts only 20 minutes away are an added bonus.
The town has changed little since its medieval conception, and the enormous fortress of Caetani Castle looms over and dominants the town and the valley below. The castle is now run by the Roffredo Caetani Foundation, which was created by Lelia Caetani in honour of her illustrious family. Today, the castle hosts courses, seminars, and prestigious concerts. In July, there are concerts in the castle by well-known contemporary musicians and orchestras.
Open air restaurants and bars make for easy summer living. Winters in cosy interiors are an equal delight.

What a gorgeous place Sermoneta is. I am not sure I would have ever visited that region of Italy without finding your place on the website. There were so many wonderful surprises at every turn, and we loved that it was not too crowded. We were very happy to be tucked in at the beautiful and charming Domus Doull, where we spent one full day lazing around the pool, and countless hours reading, napping and soaking it all up. While we were very happy there, we ventured out a little, too. The lunch I had in San Felice Circeo was a highlight. Our trip to Sperlonga was glorious, and it is where we learned about Lucano --- a lesson we enjoyed very much! Thanks to your directions, the drive back to Rome on the Via Appia resulted in more great views and food at Lake Albano. We really could not have asked for a more beautiful place or a more magical village to visit. Thanks so much. Response: It was truly a pleasure to share our wonderful part of Italy with someone so interested in discovering its many treasures. We hope that one day Sermoneta will lure you back. |

"Thank you for sharing your beautiful house with us. It was just the experience we were hoping for! Sermoneta is such a special place, we very much enjoyed the people, the pizza (from Charlie Brown’s) and the piazza. Our favorite moments were gatherings around the courtyard table: The atmosphere and surroundings are so beautiful! We also appreciated your hospitality and the invite to your “secret garden” for wine and conversation. Our stay in Sermoneta will always hold a special place in our hearts." Malcolm and Janice, July 2011
"Domus Doull is a real gem within the jewel of Sermoneta. We feel really spoiled here, Sermoneta is the sort of place where you can become part of Italian life. We have spent many days just exploring the town and relaxing in the pool. The beaches around Sabaudia are the best we have seen in Italy. A visit to the Castle is a must, also the Sunday market and the Cathedral for Sunday morning mass.
We recommend the restaurants Il Mulino and Charlie Brown’s (they do take-away pizzas here too). At Il Gardiano del Simposio has a simple menu from which Fabio will tell you what you must try. Be warned that if you have a dish between two people at Simposio you will be charged for two dishes... But our children ate for free!" - Shrewsbury, England August 2011
