BookThe Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn-et-Garonne region
Known for its green rolling landscape and rivers flowing through spectacular gorges, the area will be loved by anyone who loves walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing and exploring. There are fortified villages, castles to investigate, bustling markets and local fêtes or just simply relax and enjoy a glass of wine and fine dining in the many restaurants and bars in the villages.
The Septfonds area
Septfonds is a village with local amenities. The Festival du Chapeau takes place every July and there are other events during the year.
St Antonin(8kms away) has a lively Sunday market and has many festivals and concerts throughout the summer and a spectacular firework display in August. It also boasts the oldest town hall in France and many other interesting buildings. St Antonin is also a centre for outdoor activities. Canoeing, rock climbing, horse riding and paragliding are all available nearby.
There are many small fortified villages to explore, Penne, Najac, Cordes Sur Ciel, all being rich in history, with wonderful views, winding streets and small shops to explore.
Further afield you can explore the historic towns of Albi and Villefranche de Rourgue, the dramatic scenery of the Aveyron gorge, the Gaillac and Cahors vineyards and the fortified hilltop villages of the area.
There are many day trips to places of interest for children.
Our grandchildren's favourite is Agrip Adventure, near Montauban, which is a climbing adventure park, with rope walks, zip wires etc through the trees. Also very popular withthe adults, it is in fact suitable for all ages.
Cap D'ecouverte is another fun park, with dry ski and sledding slopes, zip wires and a great pool with inflatables.
There is a small golf course, Golf du Torche, 30 minutes away with a good value driving range for all ages.
There is a zoo/safari park not far from Toulouse which visitors have enjoyed as well as Animaparc which is a theme park mainly suitable for children up to 10 years.
If you are prepared to drive some distance it is possible to visit the Millau bridge, and the Rocomador caves and even Carcassone for day trips.
