The Cornwall region
Land's End is only about a mile further along the glorious coastal footpath, while in the opposite direction the path leads to the dramatic scenery of Cape Cornwall.
Newlyn & Mousehole
The little fishing village of Newlyn and picturesque Mousehole harbour, both popular subjects for artists, are 8 miles away.
The town of Penzance (8 miles) has a many amenities for visitors, including museums, cinema, golf, tennis and riding, as well as many good shops and restaurants.
In the summer months, day trips by ferry, plane are available to the romantic Isles of Scilly.
Porthcurno & Porthcurno Bay
Is a small village about 4 miles from Sennen. It is unusually well
known for it's size because of it's history as a major international submarine communications cable station. The Porthcurno Telegraph Museum is worth a visit to find out more……
The cliffs and coastline around Porthcurno are officially designated
Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, widely considered as some of the most visually stunning in UK. Porthcurno beach and bay enclosed by Logan Rock headland has been listed among the ten most beautiful bays in the World. There are many coastal footpaths to explore, often within just a few yards of the clifftops!
Minack Theatre –
Cornwall's world famous open air theatre. 4 miles from Sennen, the
Minack Theatre has live performances that run each year from May to September – whatever the weather!
Get there early to get the good seats, take a picnic, a blanket and enjoy the magical back drop of the Atlantic ocean whilst watching a production by some very talented companies.
St Ives – Within 30minutes drive.
St Ives, the most famous of Cornish holiday towns, loved for
generations, is easy to reach by road or by air and easy by train too. We nearly forgot the mild sub-tropical climate, warmed year round by the Gulf Stream. Long popular as an artists' colony, with its pretty stone cottages and narrow cobbled lanes. There are many galleries, including St Ive's Tate Gallery. Photographers and Artists love St Ives because of the light and colours in and around the town.
The local inn and the attractive little fishing harbour of Sennen Cove are only 15 minutes' walk across the vast expanse of the sandy Blue Flag beach, which is perfect for swimming, water sports and famous for surfing. If you are lucky, you may see dolphins, spot the odd seal or basking shark.
Rock climbing is popular on the cliffs and headlands. The coastal paths are superb walking and great for cycling or mountain biking.
Dogs are permitted on the sand dunes and neighbouring Gwenver beach, with restricted access during summer at Whitesands Bay beach.
What's There –
'The Beach' Restaurant
'The Old Success' Pub
Fish & Chip Shops
'The Roundhouse' Art Gallery & Shop
Life Boat Station
Surfing at Sennen
Sennen Cove is great for surfing all year round. The swell comes
straight in off the Atlantic and the surf in Sennen is often better than some of the more well know Cornish surfing locations.
There are a number of surfing schools both offering surfing tuition for
adults and children.
Sennen Surfing Centre – www.sennensurfingcentre.com
Sennen Surf School – www.sennensurfschool.com
Surfing is popular in Sennen and the surf schools can get pretty busy,
especially in the summer so booking in advance is recommended.
