“A little piece of heaven . . .”
That’s how the local postman has described the Vellan Dreath Valley, a lovely and hidden corner of Cornwall overlooking the wide sweep of Whitesand Bay. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – a haven for botanists, wildlife enthusiasts, beachcombers, climbers, ramblers, watermen and of course holiday makers – these delightful holiday cottages are set in a privately owned, unspoilt 8-acre valley next to the beach, bordered by a stream and sand dunes offering spectacular panoramic sea views all year round. Converted with flair and imagination to the same high standards of comfort, each of these cottages enjoys its own personal garden. Their quiet and magical settings are only accessible on foot down the sandy beach path from Sunny Corner Lane.
Sandpiper's, situated just 250 meters from the beach is a reverse level dwelling maximising its situation and resulting in spectacular sea views.
Access to this cornish cottage is by a wooden bridge in true nautical style.
The open plan living area has wonderful sea views from the tri-fold oak glazed doors on to the balcony - superb for watching the sunset.
There is a compact and well equipped bespoke kitchen and dining area.
Sandpipers' high ceilings with exposed beams, granite walls and lime-waxed wooden floors result in a light and airy feel.
Stairs to the ground floor where there is slate and underfloor heating throughout.
Here can be found the bedroom boasting an antique brass and iron double bed setting the scene and an en-suite tiled wet-room with power shower, basin and lavatory.
Outside there is a private courtyard / patio bordered by tropical plants.
Sandpiper's is currently being refurbished to the same high standard as our other remarkable Cornish Cottages and will be available in time for the Easter Holidays at the end of March 2013. Interior photographs coming soon !

The Cornwall region
Vellandreath Valley is situated within West Penwith (the Land's End peninsula) which is the southernmost area of England, and the most picturesque part of Cornwall. It is rich in dramatic beaches, wooded valleys, moorland, rolling farm land, and hidden coves; much of it is designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The far South West is warmed by south westerly breezes from the Azores, and is one of the most unpolluted areas in Britain. It has a special, indefinable quality recognized by locals and visitors alike. Its 144 square miles still supports an active small scale farming and fishing community, with a unique beauty that draws visitors back year after year.
The coastline is full of beaches, ranging from safe bathing beaches to secluded coves to wild and rocky places. Some are easily accessible and some less so. Although there are several traditional seaside resorts for family visitors, the area also attracts walkers, naturalists, artists, and anyone seeking a quiet haven, with amenities close by. The sea is crystal clear, jade green, and a comfortable swimming temperature into late autumn..
The Land's End peninsula is in the path of the warm Gulf Stream, and cold weather is rare. Frost and snow are rare, and the climate is ideal for semi-tropical plants, many of which can be seen in Vellandreath's valley gardens
West Penwith also has more ancient sites than any other area of Britain, ranging from stone age to iron age monuments and settlements. These include four stone circles, 90 standing stones, and numerous hill forts, village settlements, quoits, and burial barrows.
There are dozens of beaches on the Land's End peninsula, and they are amongst the most unpolluted resorts in Europe. They range from safe, sandy family beaches with life guards to wild and rocky coves. There are many coves where the access is difficult, with wonderfully crowd-free bathing, and others with car parks adjacent to popular resorts. The water is clear and jade-coloured; superb for swimming and surfing, and the beaches are ideal for sun bathing - .
Beaches vary from sandy to rocky and pebbly, and some have safe and shallow bathing for children, Many have nearby shops and cafes catering for family visitors, but it is also easy to find remote and private places.
The Post Office is opposite the Costcutter Villages store and is situate on the A30 Lands End Road, Sennen just 1 mile away.
Sennen Cove Stores are located in Sennen Cove opposite the Lifeboat House.

Sennen's Farmers market is held every Tuesday morning at Sennen school, just half a mile away. Sample the delights of (very) local farm produce and a spectacular array of arts and crafts.

If you dont feel like cooking then why not let someone else do it for you? Sample the delights of the Atlantic Ocean and Westcountry Farms prepared by some of the great restaurants, bistro’s and pubs in the area. Below are a few of our personal favourites…
The Beach Restaurant is a must and just a short inspiring walk across the dunes or beach. Offering specials, a main menu, BBQ’s, Pizza, beverages & Cocktails this Restaurant really is right on The Beach.
The Old Success is Sennen Cove’s local. Here you’ll good pub food with outside seating offering great views across the bay enjoying a situation just meters from the sea.
Surrounded by fantastic coastal countryside just a few miles down the road The Gurnard’s Head is a venue to head for to achieve quality dining. Alternatively pop in for a pint !
Untitled is Robert white’s and former model Jean Shrimpton’s exclusive restaurant in the heart of Penzance. In 2011 Robert White was awarded a Michelin Star in recognition of the quality cuisine served here.
This Medieval themed family restaurant has been the kids favourite for years. Funny thing is, once they’ve grown up they keep coming back !

This is superb walking country. Breathtaking views, eye watering sunsets and more flora and fauna than you can shake a walking stick at. Vellandreath Valley is the perfect starting point for any stroll, walk, ramble or hike. Venture south and one can walk over the beach or dunes, into Sennen cove, on to Lands End, Logan’s Rock and the South Coast beyond. Head north and one finds Gwenver Beach, Ayr Point leading to Cape Cornwall, on to Guarnards Head and as far as the Badlands if you’re brave enough. Of course you can always head inland and explore the moorland, woods, nearby ancient settlements and prehistoric relics. Always be prepared: with sensible clothing and footwear a must, water and mobile phone a given and a bar of chocolate a treat. An ordinance survey map may come in handy too if you’re on a serious mission.
Cape Cornwall's superbly located golf course is just 6 miles away.
Walking the Cape Cornwall golf course you could easily be forgiven for thinking that it was one of the oldest golf courses in England. Yet it was only designed in 1990 by Bob Hamilton, who also designed courses in Scotland and Singapore.
It is a truly natural course, ranging over both farmland and cliff tops and presents the golfer with a mix of challenging holes, and stunning views. 'Challenging' is indeed the most often used word when golfers return, especially on windy days!
Without doubt Cape Cornwall should be on every golfers lifetime itinerary. Once ticked-off you'll want to come back again and again.
It's a par 69 challenge, cliff tops, undulating fairways, dry-stone walls - known locally as Cornish hedges - and even ancient mine-shafts to negotiate!
The course is open and playable 364 days a year.

Whether you’re a serious sports fisherman, competent angler, seaweed catcher or crab hunter there are a wealth of spots and options to choose from...
Right in front of Vellandreath Valley you can try your luck beach casting for Bass or Mullet. To the South the breakwater at Sennen Cove serves up Pollack, mackerel and the odd conga eel. To the north hike to Arys point and enjoy the fruits of the open ocean. Of course if you are in possession of a hardy sea kayak and (and handle yourself in the open ocean) the with the right kit, the possibilities are endless. Boat trips are available from Penzance whether its a family mackerel fishing trip or a deep sea wreck expedition for the big stuff. Just because the Atlantic Ocean is 200 meters away doesn’t mean you can’t go course fishing. There are plenty of perfect places you can settle down, cast a fly or wait a while to watch your float sink.
Whatever you choose, bring your catch back to your Cornish Cottage in Vellandreath Valley and cook it up on your complimentary Barbeque.
Here at Vellandreath Valley we have one of natures best playgrounds right on our doorsteps: the beach. Of course where there’s a beach there’s the the sea and in our case we have the Atlantic Ocean brushed by the warmth of the Gulf Stream. Sennen’s Whitesands Bay is a Blue Flag beach and is well known for its quality surf, rich in surf history and folk lore. The conditions vary according to time and tide but waves can be found for all abilities whether novice, intermediate or expert. Don’t worry, if surfing is not for you then one can always take advantage of the sheltered end of the bay and swim between the lifeguard’s red and yellow bathing flags when the waves are up. Children have an absolute ball in the surf and the local surf schools offer great coaching to get them up and riding the rollers though of course just frolicking in the waves and body boarding will be excitement enough for some. If you’ve already got the surfing bug then this is the perfect place for you. If you’ve yet to try surfing then, in our opinion, there’s no better place to start… For surf lessons and board hire please see the "Activities" section of our website.
If you fancy a change from the beach life or the kids get itchy feet why not have a day out at one of the many attractions in the area. Whether is its mining heritage, delightful gardens, museums or theme parks theres something for everyone…Please see the "Activities" section of our website.
Other activities that can enjoyed by your own arrangement are cycling, yoga, rock climbing and much, much more !

"A little bit of heaven in Vellandreath"
Sandpipers is a wonderful property in an amazing location. We have stayed in many good properties in Cornwall but this is the best! It is tastefully furnished and well equipped . Vellandreath is a very special little valley leading down to Sennen beach. The view from the living room window is fantastic. Watching the sun set over the sea is a wonderful experience. One week here wasn't enough for us and have now booked two for 2015!
