The Cornwall region
Around Sennen Cove . . .
The mile long Sennen Beach and adjoining Gwenvor Beach at low tide, is a delight to behold. Grassy hills tumble down to golden white sands and translucent turquoise blue water. Popular with families the beach is controlled by professional lifeguards from April to September, and is also a magnet for surfers and body borders. However even on the busiest days it's easy to find a quite spot for serious relaxation.
This stretch of coast enjoys the best weather in Cornwall. Protected by the dramatically towering Cape Cornwall (the only cape in England) and the foreboding Brisson Rocks every day can be different in the bay. Giant waves crashing over the breakwater attract Grey Seals searching for supper and the next day the ocean can become a mill pool with dolphins playing just off shore. You may be lucky and spot the occasional visit of basking sharks (harmless to humans!) Always to be seen are a variety of seabirds sometimes rare, many nesting on the nearby cliffs.
Sennen Cove is protected from the prevailing Atlantic westerlies by the mighty Pedn-men-du cliff. The locals will talk of the cove as being different from up top (Sennen Village) as a coat and a jacket! Still a working fishing village the cove was a major pilchard fishery up until the late 1900's providing employment to many local men and woman. Note the names of the cottages, many also now Self Catering Holiday Accommodation - The Seine Loft, The Old Saltings, The Boat House Stores for instance. From the cove you can embark on two equally distinct and spectacular walks both part of the South West Coastal Path. To the south from a the harbour car park a cliff top path takes you past the remains of Maen Castle dating back to 300BC on to Land's End with spectacular views of the Longship's Lighthouse and across to the Isles of Scilly just some 28 miles distant. Onwards from Land's End things change spectacularly as you leave the Atlantic coast for the start of the English Channel. Discover Nanjizal, Penberth, The Minnack Theatre and Porthcurno. You'll have walked for three hours at this point but the good news is there's a bus back to the Cove that will drop you off at The Cubby Hole! Do be sure to check times first!
In a northerly direction from the main car park follow the path behind the beach and explore the dramatic walk to Cape Cornwall and onwards past St Just to Pendeen for the more hardy, where you can pick up an open top bus back to the cove - again take care on timings!
There are lots of holiday amenities are on your doorstep . . . turning right the famous Old Success Inn is your local pub some 100 yards level walk away and a few yards further on the more cosmopolitan restaurant The Beach is a delight. Try red wine and olives on the terrace as the sun sets - bliss! Turning left from The Cubby Hole even closer at hand is the well stocked and friendly Old Boat House Stores (don't miss their home baked bread or Andrew's online diary!) - 'open all hours' throughout the season. On past the Lifeboat Station a dramatic reminder of the power of the Cornish seas, is the old harbour and the excellent Round House Gallery, displaying wonderful paintings, ceramics and sculptures by local artists. Other facilities in the cove include a fish and chip restaurant and take-away, a surf school, cafe, ice cream parlour and last but not least one whole mile of golden sand!

"fantastic location and facilities and very friendly welcome!"
A beautiful property with fantastic views and close to all amenities. The property is furnished to a high standard but also felt very comfortable. The accommodation was spotless. The proprieters were very welcoming and provided easy straightforward booking arrangements. They were also very kind to us and were flexible about vacating the property on our final day as we stayed during the terrible storms which began in Cornwall in Oct 2013.

"Great things come in small packages"
We have stayed at Cubby twice now, with our two young children, 8 and 3 this time around. We love the intimacy of Cubby, there's no getting away from the fact it is small but we rather like that. It has everything you need and importantly for Sennen it is in prime position for getting to the beach and not having to worry about parking.

"The perfect position for a holiday in Cornwall"
The Cubby Hole is an excellent place to stay. It is right on the sea front in Sennen Cove, and is only seconds from the beach. We stayed in 2012, and then again in 2013 as we had enjoyed it so much.
The accommodation comes with parking right outside. When we stayed, the accommodation was more of a studio-type, with the sleeping facilities and living all in one large room. We understand that this has now changed with the addition of a separate bedroom. In our opinion this will make it more suitable for large families.
The accommodation has character, is spotlessly clean, and the owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. We would have no problem in recommending this accommodation to anyone.

This tiny bolt hole in lovely Sennen Cove was absolutely lovely. It had everything we needed, plus a marvellous view and - incredible in busy Sennen - our own parking slot. Also we were just by the Bus Stop so we could travel without the car when we wanted to. The little terrace outside was ideal for sundowners or afternoon read with people-watching as a bonus! I understand it is join to become bigger - in a way that is a shame!
