Expectation builds during the approach to Villa Kinara, along a narrow high-walled lane in one of Seminyak’s most sought-after areas. Grand entrances allow glimpses of some equally grand residences and neighbours include The Oberoi Hotel and Bali’s most famous nightspot, Ku De Ta.
Those expectations are more than lived up to on entering the villa’s beautifully kept grounds. Stepping stones across a richly planted garden lead to a vast, open-plan and open-sided lounge, bar and dining area where a lofty wooden ceiling is supported by impressively stout columns of teakwood, and super-size custom-made furniture beckons. The use of natural materials – golden teak, pale creamy Javanese stone, cool grey slate and the dramatic black volcanic rock of the water wall at one end of the 14 x 5m pool – coupled with the sound of gently flowing water, creates a calm and serene atmosphere at Villa Kinara.
Accommodation is arranged over a pair of two-storey buildings that face each other across the pool and courtyard garden planted with ancient frangipani and kelapa sawit (oil palm). Wide balconies are furnished with deeply cushioned daybeds and cozily arranged tables and chairs, while doors and windows feature louvred shutters which not only offer shade and allow the air to flow, but also heighten the charming colonial style of the villa. Kinara’s six spacious bedrooms all have top-quality king-size beds (two of which are convertible to twins) and are tastefully decorated and furnished. All have pleasant ensuite bathrooms, some of which are semi-outdoors.
Kinara’s team of 14 staff is shared with next door neighbour, four-bedroom Villa Kinaree, and include a chef, service staff and a cheerful villa manager. Meals can be selected from a menu or specially requested and all food and beverages are charged to guests at cost price. Large TVs and a pool table positioned at the heart of the living area provide entertainment for those happy to stay home, but Seminyak’s many restaurants bars and boutiques are close at hand for guests inclined to venture beyond the sanctuary of the villa.

The Bali/Lesser Sunda Islands region
Bali is Indonesia's most popular tourist location and is considered one of Asia's premier tropical island destinations. Steeped in history and renowned for its artistic way of life, Bali is a peaceful contrast to some of the more frantic destinations Asia has to offer.
The inner peace and creative talents of the Balinese has attracted artists the world over fascinated by local dancers, silversmiths, wood carvers, potters and painters that seem to pervade throughout the island. The abundant verdant fields and surrounding sea have long supplied Bali with an easy surplus of food leaving time for life's more artistic past times. As a result everything in Bali has a creative and religious element centred around the local Banjar (residents association) – little, adorned temples are everywhere, doors are covered in intricate carvings, huge kites ward off evil spirits and colourful roadside ceremonies bring traffic to a standstill.
Bali is a popular destination principally from Australia and Asia but also from all over Europe. The island welcomes thousands of visitors each year to a relaxing lifestyle, stunning beaches, world class surf, vibrant villages, and spectacular scenery all with an exquisite tropical climate. Located approximately two hours' flying time from Singapore the island is serviced by an international airport at Denpasar with direct flights to and from many major cities in Asia, Europe and Australia and many more via Jakarta, Indonesia's capital.
The island offers an impressive range of leisure and lifestyle amenities including world-class golf courses, wonderful seascapes for surfing, diving and snorkelling as well as luxurious spas, chic boutiques, tropical forests, towering volcanoes and international cuisine.
A few kilometres north west of Kuta, Seminyak is a hip and happening district which has long been the lure of bohemians and jetsetters. This is Bali's late-night party land, laying claim to the highest concentration of independent fine-dining restaurants and beach clubs on the island, including Ku Dé Ta, Potato Head, Mozaic, Cocoon, La Lucciola, Sarong, Métis and Sardine. Seminyak also boasts a plethora of chic cocktail bars, sumptuous spas and fashionable boutiques.
Seminyak Beach is the place where the local and expat communities gather every evening at sunset. A playground of the rich, the famous and the bon vivants, the vibrant nightlife and luxurious accommodation of Seminyak draws a sophisticated crowd of 'beautiful people', especially Europeans.
Nearby sporting facilities include the Canggu Club (of which many holiday villas in the area include guest membership), offering social and leisure amenities, including a state-of-the art gym, a 25m swimming pool and a tennis and squash centre. For horse lovers, three riding stables are located at nearby Canggu – Kuda P, Tarukan, and Bali Equestrian Centre. Nirwana Golf Course – designed by Greg Norman and renowned as one of the best golf courses in Asia – lies about 20km up the coast beside the dramatic, waved-lashed sea temple of Tanah Lot. Seminyak is also convenient for all of Bali's main shops, shopping malls, Waterbom Park, and many tourist attractions.
