Home description
Located on a natural lookout, 750 metres above sea level, with splendid views over Sellano and the little villages surrounding the green valley below, the Vallemela Residence stands in the walled hamlet of Montesanto, which during the 15th Century was an imposing castle on the border between the Duchy of Spoleto and the Dukedome of Camerino. Admiring the wall surrounding the castle and the church you can still recognize the remains of its past splendour.
Divided into three apartments, the house is an excellent example of the harmony between past and present: externally the property retains its original architectural features (solid walls, squared stones, arches and little windows) while the interior has been carefully restored combining a seductive atmosphere of warmth and comfort with a great sense of history.
Guests can enjoy the breathtaking view over the valley from a well-tended garden where it is easy to find a secluded spot to read a book or drink a glass of fine wine. The apartments share a gazebo, barbecue and swimming pool (5 x 10 m), all set in panoramic surrounding.
Near Valnerina and close to the National Park of "Monti Sibillini", the Residence beckons to explore the serene nature, where country roads wind through astonishing views over thickly wooded areas, colourful meadows, springs and ponds. Far away from mass tourism, Vallemela offers peace, quiet and serenity.
The house is divided into three charming apartments: ARCO, LEVANTE and BELLAVISTA
ARCO (4 beds - sq m 42): Ground floor: a roomy kitchen with living/dining room with one full-sized double sofa bed; first floor: one double bedroom, one single bedroom, one bathroom with shower. Services: oven, refrigerator, hairdryer.

The Umbria region
Few places in the world can boast Umbria’s rare values of space, time and peace. It is out of these values and of the will to transmit them to you that our proposals of country tourism come, proposals that allow you to live the most significant aspects of Umbria. Tradition, history and art are here part of daily life.
Also the pleasure of the table is a tradition and a sort of art based on the simple wholesome flavours of its typical products: wine, olive oil, salami, truffles, lentils.
Thanks to the countless historical and gastronomic festivals and folklore shows, we offer numerous possibilities for entertainment, as well as sports such as rafting, trekking or paragliding.
Sellano / Montesanto area
White water rafting in Biselli or at Marmore Falls The towns to visit and the folklore shows to discover are many in the area of Norcia and Valnerina. These are the distances between the Residence Vallemela and the most important cities: - NORCIA, small roman town with its attractive medieval churches, famous throuout Italy for its "black truffle" and "prosciutto crudo". - CASTELLUCCIO, famous for its lentils and its beautiful spring flowering landscapes, ideal place for paragliding - MOUNT VETTORE and PILATO LAKE, ideal for excursions in the mountains - FERENTILLO perfect for rock-climbing on exciting equipped rock faces - VISSO - VALLO DI NERA, famous for its "Festivallo" in August - SCHEGGINO, renowned for its superb river fish dishes - POGGIODOMO with its beautiful church Madonna della Stella - MONTELEONE DI SPOLETO, famous for one of the world's great archaeological finds: a 6c B.C. Etruscan chariot which now resides at the Metropolitan Museum in New York - MARMORE WATERFALLS, the highest waterfalls in Europe - FOLIGNO with ist spectacular "Giostra della Quintana" In June and September and Pasta Festival in October - PRECI with its live crib at the St. Eutizio Abbey - SPOLETO: charming roman town with its beautiful cathedral, Roman bridge and amphitheatre and most of all with its Festival of Music and Dance iin June/july. Anyway the main Umbrian towns are worth a day trip too: Assisi (Calendimaggio in May); Spello (Infiorata del Corpus Domini in June); Perugia (Umbria Jazz in July and Eurochocolate in October); Bevagna (Mercato delle Gaite in June); Todi 50 km (Antiquities Market in April).
Montesanto is a tiny village belonging to the municipality of Sellano. Excluding its Italian and foreign summer visitors, Montesanto’s only inhabitants are three families.
Downhill, in Sellano, only 7 km away, you will find all sorts of facilities: supermarket, butcher, bar, public telephone, bank, bus stop, chemists, medical emergency service, post-office and petrol station.
The nearest restaurant is 10 km away, and, if you fancy a drink or a pizza, you can find a pub 9 km away alongside a nice little lake also equipped for fishing.

Guestbook
I cannot say how highly we rated this property, it is a real joy to have stayed there. It's highly specified with everything we would expect at a hoe from home. The peaceful and rural landscape are exactly what anyone needs to unwind from a hectic and often stressful modern life. We will definitely return and our plans are steering toward staying at Vallemella in Montesanto next summer. A great base, a great welcome - thanks for being there!

Grazie mille!! S. et V. Sucy-en-brie, France
Our American family of four based out of Naples, Italy, thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Montesanto. The Vallemela property is very peaceful, surrounded by ancient history at every view. Our apartment was located beside the old castle which unfortanately is in ruins but was interesting to explore from the outside. The grounds are well cared for and the staff at San Potente ensured our every need was addressed and cared for. The location was ideal for the types of day trips we were taking throughout Umbria. We look forward to visiting their other sites in the future. S. Family, Naples, Italy
